"You can send money to an inmate in West Virginia by purchasing a money order from any U.S. Post office or by obtaining a certified check. Make the check or money order payable to the inmate's full committed name and include the offender's department of correction identification number. Mail the completed money order in an envelope to the inmate, the mailroom will remove the funds from the envelope and place them for deposit into the offender's account. Never send cash or personal checks, the facility will return these items to the sender at the inmate's expense or if no return address is listed the cash will be treated as contraband."
1. I went to the Bank of America and purchased a certified check.
2. I put all the information required on the certified check.
3. It got returned to me saying, "RTS Item Not Permitted."
4. As far as I can tell, this is the only option to send her $20.00
5. What do I do?

Don't worry, they don't even follow their own rules. I sent a hard cover book to a BOP FCI... It says in their rules they accept hard cover books. It got rejected. The only other way I can think of doing it is going through the process of using Western Union or some other online option, but you'll have to check which one that is for the specific facility.
I did try Western Union but it requires an 8 digit ID number. Her's is only 7 digits.
Also, under Western Union "Correctional Facility" Lakin Correctional Center isn't on the list.
As I said above check with the rules of the facility for the specific way to send money in. Or better yet, call them.
