I have Sent 5 "1st Letters" to 5 wap inmates but was thinking of sending a couple more lol, is that wise???.
The reason i was thinking of sending a couple more as there is of course no gurantee of any of the previous 5 replying....Dont like to just assume things.

Well I would say go for it but like SandyF says when those letters start to come you will be so swamped with responding that you probably wont end up keeping them all unless you get ones like 2 of mine who take great pleasure in making me wait for ages for mail.

Start of March? C'mon. I sent most of mine in the beginning of February and was estimating, minimum, 3 1/2 weeks before I would expect a response. And I'm in Canada, not Scotland!

I thought similar to you, concerned with just how many would respond, so I sent out 10 over a 3 day period :OMG:, and added another one a few days later for good measure. Well, more because I really liked the words and attitude of her ad.

Final talley 8/11...oh boy...

The thing is, no matter how many reply, some may be just once a month types, some may be once a week, some more... it doesn't nessecarily mean you will have daily letters from all of them to answer! I always think, how many can I reasonably write proper letters to? I "almost" just started a new one myself but changed my mind. In my case, it was because it was DR and it was just... too hard and bringing back too many hard memories to think of writing to someone on DR again. I wouldn't want to start something with someone and then disappoint them. I guess that's the bottom line, how many and what kind can you sustain reasonably, for whatever reasons that can only be known to you.

I would wait and see who replies. Then go from how often they write. Pick up more as you go along.
You don't want to take on too many at once and then end up having someones feelings hurt because you can't write as much as you had first wanted to.

A couple more wouldnt hurt Lunchy, just hang on in there though. It can take a while but you will hear something :)

Did you use the WAP e-mail ?
They were sent the 4th - luckily they got them around 8 or 9 of March (week-end no mail) - some will reply the same day, some will take a couple of days, some a week :deal:- then the mail staff can hold the mail (one of my pp's proved it to me, since they stamp the date they send it to the post office and it's always 3 days after he has written it) - so if you add up all these delays - they were probably sent on Monday, or yesterday to you
It usually takes a week (8 days) to fly to Europe, unless you're lucky (mine in PA - got it within 5 days :) ) - you'll probably go to get your first replies next Monday !!!
and if one lucky pp wrote back the same day and the mail staff sent it right away, [I][B]then you actually may get mail this week !!![/B][/I]

He didnt use wap mail Sandy, he wrote im sure he said to me. Yeah it just depends on where you wrote to aswell, to Texas my mail takes like 5 days to reach my guy and 6 to get back to me, it usually runs like clockwork that way. However my guy in SQ, it takes about 14days each way...IF IM LUCKY!

I'd give it at least 5 weeks from when you wrote before they will all have replied and if you sent interesting letters my guess is that you will get 3 or 4 replies.
If you get 3 good pen pals then that will involve quite a lot of writing,sending Xmas and birthday cards etc.I'd just wait and see how many of the 5 reply before sending more.

Beginning of March? Maybe this week then! I sent my first on the 4th and received my first answer yesterday (still sooooo happy!! he even sent a pic!). He received it on the 9th, the day he received it. I am tempted to write to a couple others I liked but I prefer to wait a bit more to see if the two others reply. I think it's better to only have a couple but a good relationship rather than a ton of penpals and ending not having time for all of them!

I saw the Louie Theroux Documentary on that Prison!!.

I thought the very same thing. It had been 6-8 weeks and I was getting ready to give up when they started arriving. I've sent out eight, gotten two answers (so far!). Answered both of them the same day and sent it out. It occurred to me that maybe it was just taking a while to get the responses. Yet another hooked me up with Corrlinks just to say he got my letter and is writing a big one back to me.

I'm somewhat older, married, and tell them straight up that we are farm people and don't have a lot of $$$...just lots of extra attention. I called a few of the facilities for rules...I envisioned sending baked goods (cookies, brownies) but most of the places just laughed at my naivete. : (

So Gods only know why they choose to write back, or not.
