well a lot of it depends on the prison and the stay Dep. of Corrections in question. Generally you have no reason to be scared or nervous. I think it's a warm experience and once you get there, you wll forget abotu being nervous. It's a cool experience.

LME i just made a thread about Polunsky and my visit, maybe it may help you.
Hi there! I wanted to let you know that visiting for your first time can be a scary thing. It's normal for you to be nervous, especially when you don't know what to expect. But trust me, there's nothing to be worried about. And, as soon as you get there and meet your pp, the nervousness will melt away!
As for what to expect, well, as Will said, it depends on the DOC where your friend is. Each prison has their own set of rules. Some things are different with one than they are with another. You might look online for a visitor's handbook or something so you'll know the basic rules.
When I went, you had to go to 'roll call' as they called it. There, you sign in by telling an officer your name and the number of the inmate you're there to see. You show your license to prove you're who you say you are and to be sure that you're on that person's visitation list. Then you sit down and wait for your friend's last name to be called. Once it's been called, you get up, go to the desk and get the back of your hand stamped with ultraviolet ink.
Next, you go to 'shake down'. Here, you remove your shoes to be sent through the x-ray machine and they check your coat for things you're not allowed to take in, so be sure your pockets are empty. You walk through a metal detector, then you are taken into a small room to be patted down, and to be sure you're not wearing anything that is not allowed. Once you have finished this process, you go through a big metal door where you scan the back of your hand. Once you do that, you go to another big metal door where, when it opens, will take you into the visitation gallery where your friend will be standing with the biggest smile on his face!
I hope this helps and that you're not quite as nervous now. Have a wonderful visit, and remember to smile!
