I am trying to visit an inmate in Texas, but since I am coming from far away I want to make sure I have adequate time to see him. He claims that I am on his special visitation list, and as long as I visit within the period he told me I should be good to go. But it feels like I should need to notify the prison that I am coming. Is this something I have to do? Or, can I just show up within that date window and I will be set because I am already on the list?

Hi dpel, did the inmate send you a visitor’s application you filled out and sent back?  Usually there is some notification if you are approved to visit or not, from my understanding.  They do a background check at many facilities.  I would call with the prison to make sure you are on the approved list.

Usually you have to make an appointment. If I were you I'd definitly read the rules on their website and call if you have any further questions.
