This is my problem,
My man is in prison and will be there for 3 more years.
I have female issues and may have to have a surgery to prevent me from getting pregnant. My dr's have suggested I try and get pregnant.
The problem is we dont get those kinda visits where you can procreate. so...
Does anyone know if the prisons would allow my man to provide me with his *sperm* samples for the IVF process?
Just curious.

Hmm....that's an interesting question. One I don't have a clue about.
However, I doubt that they would be willing to allow this. :( The reason I say this is because it could cause them to be held responsible should anything go wrong, such as you (or the baby) contracting some disease such as Hep C or worse. (Not saying your guy HAS these things, just that they might use this as an excuse as to why they aren't willing to allow it)
Also, sadly, I haven't known prisons to 'give' much to inmates or their families or friends. Seems the only class they took was 'taking away from inmates 101'
I do wish you luck with this, and I look forward to reading the answers you might get to this one. I did find it rather interesting!
I am kind of in the same boat... and your questions are good ones..... I may have to agree with gator about prisons only knowing how to take things away from inmates. It wont hurt to look into it though. As gator also said .... Please keep us posted on what happens. We are all curious to know what does happen. Good luck!

Hmm. Even if they had such visits, would they let you do it if you weren't married?
Pretty soon all the inmates would want visitors and they would have to hang a red light in the window.
And then the local churches would try to shut the prison down.
Hmm...shut the prison down? Hey that may not be such a bad idea afterall! LOL!!
No, Xray, you don't get those visits anywhere that I know of, without being married.
well... we are married... I wish I could just have a little one on one with him for about 1 to 2 hours hehe
Though I don't often comment on items of a personal nature, I am, after all, and have been, an Investigator for many, many years. Therefore, I sometimes tend to analyze what I see as contradictory 'on the surface'. Something in the following comment caught my attention:
<<"I have female issues and may have to have a surgery to prevent me from getting pregnant. My dr's have suggested I try and get pregnant.">>
I don't intend to sound critical, and I'm certainly not a physician, but it seems to me if surgery may be necessary to PREVENT you from getting pregnant, then the Dr. must be concerned that there is DANGER in allowing a pregnancy. Thus, it doesn't seem likely that he would recommend you do something that would endanger you, (such as trying to get pregnant) when he's considering surgery to prevent such endangerment in the first place.
However, is it possible that this surgery isn't actually INTENDED to PREVENT pregnancy, but rather that the surgery is for other purposes, but would RESULT in one not being able to conceive ?
I was just wondering if maybe I was reading this wrong, or if perhaps the wording was a bit confusing.
Well, my tubes are shot so they only work half the time, and to date they don't do tubal implants. And I have early signs of indemetriosis. They will eventually have to do a hystrectomy and they are encouraging me to have a baby to slow down the process.
I aint gettin' any younger either and would like to have a lil' munchkin, but my man is in captivity at the moment, and they aint releasing him from the joint until they are good and ready.
Ok, that makes a lot more sense. I didn't intend for you to feel the necessity to disclose purely personal medical information.
I'm thinking that there may be something that can be worked out. Consider contacting the Chaplain at the prison, and getting him in touch with your Doctor (you'll have to sign a HIPPA release for your physician to discuss your medical condition with the Chaplain.)
The Chaplain may be able to arrange, through the Warden and the DOC, a semenary extraction under supervision, through the medical department at the prison. Stranger things have happened.
An inmate's incarceration does not preclude his 'right' to procreate, and if this will be his ONLY opportunity, there can be exceptions to every rule. I wouldn't waste a lot of time, however.
