Hey all, just a little story that really makes me mad. A friend of mine I worked with last yr, her son was excecuted n 2004 for a fire that killed his kids in the early 90's. He never confessed and always said he didnt do it..etc....they excecuted him in 2004 and not long after that they realized that maybe they were wrong and didnt have all the evidence.etc....Now they have 5 forensec experts that say it wasnt arson and he didnt set the fire and oops, someone made a mistake.Too late now though he has been gone for a little over 2 yrs.OMG...The whole time he was on death row he claimed his innosence and no one would listen to him, he went to his grave claiming he didnt do it.Now all of a sudden they have proof he didnt do it,it is really sad that he had to lose his life because they were dead set ( no pun intended) on killing this man even after they had proof and wouldnt allow it n court...It happened n texas, and if anyone would like to read more about it lemme know. I didnt know if I could post his name here.JUst a sad, sad situation...sorry for taking up so much space. It is just a sad sad story......Kristi

MS this was on Fox News, and there is big problem on the way, and ask for Texas they get off killing people, for them it just so much of nothing. I would like to see all of this stopped, put them in a pit and let them rot , but killing the worng person, well there is not need for that.
Not to worry about the lengh
THAT IS WHY I DON'T BELIEVE IN THE DEATH PENALTY!! (
I can`t support the DP for reasons such as that. Its too late to pardon a corpse.
MS, I agree with Smilely, I do not believe in the death penalty either, how can you bring back the innocents?
Just a thought,
Darlene
They have to know that soomer or later someone was going to get the DP and didnt do anything, worng place , wrong time, and that person did it. There is no need for the DP, those days are over.
How aweful your poor friend how devastating ,it wont bring back her son but i'd sue if i were her.when Bush was govener of texas didnt they call him death row Bush? he didnt pardon anyone
If some state officials have wrongfully executed someone, they are guilty of murder themselves. I am all for executing a few of them.
It might make the rest of them think twice before they rush to judgement, just to clear the docket.
Thx for the comments/thoughts..dragonfly, I think after they get thru the court bs they are going to award her some $$...I mena they have 5 experts saying no way it was arson..go figure.Too little too late but at least his name will be clear. They recently flew his mom to austin and interviewed her, some of you may have seen this on t.v. his name was Cameron Willingham..hope I dont get in trouble for posting his name, but it is a story some of u might like to look up...Kristi
heart breaking just heart breaking. I agree with the death penelty in some cases but didnt consider the other aspect of it .The innoccent that may be put to death for a crime they did not commit thanks for posting this It really has me re-thinking my position on this subject.my prayers are with her
Doesn't ANYONE consider what the families and friends may go through when there child, brother, father, mother, friend etc is executed/murderd by the State. These are the INNOCENT parties as well. But where is there voice??
Not till its brought right in our faces no i dont think we do think about it.We are concentrating on the the crime and the victems family children parents etc....
When I read stories like this it is no wonder to me why the free civilized world holds the US Justice system in such ill repute.
Willingham was just an ordinary working man with a record of other crimes and in the final analysis the Governor of Texas, the prosecutors of Texas and the learned Judges of Texas decided his life was not worth the time and effort to give him the opportunity to present new evidence that would save his life. This was an innocent man. No he was not a great man, nor was he a wealthy man, nor does it sound like he was the kind of man many of us would want as a friend. But he was a human being, and now he is dead because no one wants to listen to a poor unlikeable man.
Nowhere in reading about this man could I find anyone who would even say, "We made a mistake. We're sorry." I did find a bunch of people making a lot of excuses for their actions and their inactions...like a group of cats trying to bury crap on a marble slab! Ignore the wrong doing, ignore the mistake, it will make the mistake go away.
If I was put in the postion where I had to serve on a jury where the death penalty was a possiblity I would simply refuse to serve. I would go to jail myself before I would serve. I would refuse to serve because there would be no guarantee that the great and powerful in the Justice system would not lie to me about the accused. In fact it is more likely that they would lie.
Killing human beings is wrong. It does not matter who does it or how it is done or for what reason, it is wrong.
Just my thoughts
Tom
This is one of the reasons that I DON'T believe in the death penalty...an "I'm so sorry" will never bring back this man to his greiving family...and how can his family ever move on or have closure from something horrible like this? That really was a sad story...
My prayers go out to this man's family, that they may some day be able to cope with the wrongful execution of a loved one.

This is why the death penalty was abolished in the UK and I think the rest of the world should realise that this can't go on. Too many innocents are being put to death and it should be stopped.

I used to think that killing human beings was wrong, too. But then, I went to Vietnam and other human beings were trying to kill me. It kind of gave me a whole new perspective on the debate. Sometimes that killing is simply necessary.
Perhaps my comment was a little off topic. I have no intention of disputing or disparaging anyone elses opinion, on this topic. I only hope to point out that one's perspective can weight heavily on a person's opinion.
And, this has nothing to do with the wrongful execution of an innocent person. However it does apply to the right or wrong of the DP, our perspectives, and the application of the DP.
I think that it may be very easy to decry the DP, if you have never been affected by the the wrongful death of a loved one, at the hands of a criminal. And, I also wonder if a young mother might not have the urge to take another human beings life, if she were to witness the murder of one of her children?
So now, I'm sorry that I even brought it up. It is a never ending debate which I try to stay out of. But, every once in a while, something sparks the urge to speak out. :-)
I know everyone has their own opinions/thoughts about the dp..I have my own thoughts about it too.But this man had the option to spend life n jail or the dp and he refused to plead guilty for something he just did not do,I didnt know him personallybut facts are facts and now they want to let these people speak and say" hey we made a mistake and maybe he didnt do it"..TOO LATE!!!!!Nothing will ever bring those children back or him for that matter but at least his family will be a little more at ease knowing that his name will finally be cleared...His mom is a wonderful woman. She and his dad had to see him behind glass for all those yrs and never got to touch him till he was dead..thats just SAD...JUst my thoughts....soryy so long......Kristi
This is exactly why I do not under any circumstance believe in the death penalty. You just never know. The wrong people get put away all the time and you can't bring them back once they are gone. This was a sad story indeed but unfortunatly it isn't anything that we all haven't heard before. Too sad.
What a sad story I ownder just how often things like that happen?? I feel for the family!
The DP was abolished in South Africa. Why not in the UK that's so much further advanced?
Sorry, that should have been US NOT UK
Xray48, I could not have said it better!!
