I don't know how "justice" works when it was a foreigner ... but I hope there is some justice for Amanda.

R.I.P Amanda

Not sure if anyone is still interested in this, but I've been following it here and there since the suspect is Dutch. Latest news is that the man they suspect of blackmailing Amanda, can be extradited to Canada after his court case here. The case will start early next year, and he'll have to face 72 charges including blackmail and distribution of child pornography.

Newspaper article (in English) is here: Aydin Coban, suspect in Amanda Todd cyberbullying case, can be extradited, Dutch court rules - British Columbia - CBC News

The moral of the story is that 13 yr old little girls will do anything for acceptance and don't always make sound decisions.

Never a truer word said.

The moral of that sad story is just be careful what one puts on line.

But your victim blaming is charming.

To be honest, I think the lawyer is grasping for straws even though he actually might have enough of a case to get this guy out of jail. His strategy is that, since the guy was living on a bungalow park (bungalows rented out to people on holiday and such), the netwerk might not have been safe and someone in the vicinity used this guy's computer network to harass that girl.
It could be, of course, but it was only his IP address that was used as far as they know now, on different days and different times.

Again, he could be right (that's why it's going to court, so a judge can decide what's what), but it seems a bit too much of a coincidence to me.

I think I read a news article once about a man who was arrested for downloading child pornography and it turned out that someone else was using his wireless connection (can't be sure, I'm not much of a computer geek). So the ip address lead to one person while the culprit was someone entirely different...

Edit: but yeah, if only his ip address was used, it seems pretty iffy... I wonder though... does your ip address change when you move locations? Because I thought he moved around a lot?

What? Just because I didn't understand why it was a problem to go through the x-ray security screening? Can't remember anything else I've particularly disagreed with you on recently and I haven't commented on even half of the things you've posted.

*shrugs*

Well...if I want to post about my phonecalls... I guess I will. Courtesy revoked since everything I say lately seems to be met by snark from you.

I don't have an issue. If someone posts something that provokes a comment in me, I'll comment.

Because until he is proven guilty by law, he may NOT be "the man that did this".

Uh yea... I don't know what your issue is lately but get off my a$$.

They didn't release the guys name...so what does it matter? Someone was arrested...and I said IF HE DID DO THIS.

I don't see how it works against anything to know that they think they have found the man that did this.
Canadians care the most about this...and since all the investigation is happening in the Netherlands...I'm sure things will be investigated just fine...

I wonder why they didn't release the information for 3 months. I saw he'd been arrested in January but the news story only came out today.

This man is arrested in Januari and it had been in the news back then. This news reach you today, because a journalist interpretated that 1 of the victims who is a teenage girl from Canada as that he is the one that blackmailed Amanda Todd.

Why would the police publish information about the victims and the offender? I don't get that? It really is no one business. It will only work against the police and their investigation.

According to the newspapers here he was arrested three months ago and he'll stay in prison until he goes to court. He refuses to talk so far.
His lawyer is going for lack of evidence other than circumstantial (computer could've been hacked).

It'll be interesting to see how it pans out. I would hope they didn't arrest him without looking into a hacking angle. I was thinking surely someone couldn't get away with it by claiming that because it happened for 2 years... but... I suppose it might be a good angle to get away with it.

At least he's in prison and I hope there is strong evidence against him...if he did do this.
