I know most people lead busy lives, dont have time to read anything more than a few lines, let alone spend 30 minutes watching a video of the unknown. PLEASE take the time, PLEASE make the time and you will not be sorry you made the effort. It will leave an impression, without a doubt, what that is will be left to your interpretation........So tell me what did you see and how did it leave you feeling?

KONY 2012 - YouTube
The link works for me.
I've already seen that video.....I can't find the right words right now. I'll come back later.:crybaby2:
Kony is an absolutely despicable man, and I pray justice will be done to him- by whatever means necessary. There have been a lot of critics lately that are downplaying the efforts of KONY 2012, stating that the social media is not an appropriate forum for advocacy. What I don't understand is that, in my eyes, ANY forum that is accessible should be used to put this horror story out there. Fact of the matter is, everyone that says that just so happens to be sitting in their nice warm houses, watching TV with their laptop on the table in First World countries and don't want to be forced to think about those so unfortunate. There is already a large movement starting in a major city in New England to promote more awareness about Kony, painting the city with posters of his face so he cannot hide behind all those abused children anymore.
I think it's great that they are trying to rally everyone. BUT the problem is not that they're trying to do that thanks to social media, the problem apparently is that the association taking care of this doesn't seem really reliable.
Concerning KONY 2012 - Nothing Suspicious Going On Here
I'm not sure I understand, Oasis. I know I have heard complaints about this issue being promoted primarily through the social media. I have also heard that some experts are saying that monitary support will do very little, if anything at all, to help. Maybe I misunderstood, because I interpreted the latter statement as a stronger force than money, such as the ICC, is the only thing that can truly make a difference for these children. Perhaps it was meant to be because the association that is receiving the donations is unreliable. Are they speaking about the Invisible Children's organization? Forgive my ignorance. I've only recently heard of the movement, so there is much I have clearly yet to understand.
Oh no worries ;) I'm new to this too. I saw the video yesterday and thought it was a good cause and a really moving moment. Then I saw an article explaining ICC doesn't seem very reliable, and then found this article I just sent you. It made me a bit worry and I'm still trying to figure out what to think about all this, but I thought it would be good to have some balance. No doubt Kony is a really evil man though.
I understand now what you're saying. It's quite conceivable that the ICC would be unreliable. Unfortunately, it is a major organization and, in many cases, things of this nature are often too caught up in playing politics and not doing what is clearly outlined for them. It certainly calls into question why he has been allowed to continue these crimes against humanity without much of any punishment. I agree, finding balance in all of this is ideal; I just also imagine it is very unlikely. Kony is a sad excuse for a human being and needs to be stopped, but my fear is that in a world motivated by self-preservation and continued seats in office, it's not looking good for finding anyone with enough international power to step up, put their necks out there, and put and end to this horror.
Perhaps if there were oil wells in Uganda, more might have been done sooner.
Much can be said when you have a person writing a blog who gets part of their info, on their own addmittance from wikipedia. I will not get into a debate other than to leave you with their financials for the past 6 years and i will leave it up to them. In there own words.....
credibility in the eyes of policymakers, fellow non-profit workers, LRA-affected communities, and YOU is our most important asset, so we would like to encourage you, if you have critiques, to get specific: find facts, dig deeper, and we’ll gladly continue the conversation from there. If encountering something you disagree with, suggest an alternative to what we are doing- and we will absolutely take heed. If it’s a matter of opinion, taste, humor, or style: we apologize, and will have to agree to disagree. As the poet Ke$ha says, “we are who we are.”
InvisibleChildren
I actually really like how Invisible Children addressed that issue. Opening the forum for anyone to address any concerns that might exist in the hopes of expediting any action that could be taken against Kony, I feel, shows their character. They are willing to put themselves out there and do whatever is necessary to apprehend him. I'm not so sure I agree that Ke$ha is a poet... but to each their own :p
I see your point but they can write pretty much whatever they want...
I don't give a crap about this charity's finances. I personally can't back a group that supports the Ugandan military.
The link got me to youtube but all I saw was an ad for facebook, then an ad for youtube, then the facebook ad again, the youtube ad again, and so on ad finitum.
If you go on youtube and have the ability to view the videos, put in the search at the top "Kony 2012" and it is the first one on the list, showing a pic of the world. :)
Been there, done that, still cannot find out anything about Mr Kony.
(And I'm not sure that I care any more, anyway.)
No worries, we both tried. :)
uhh...
