Shooting outside school

This just happened:

Three shot near Portland, Oregon high school - police

As soon as I heard where in the city this happened and what school it was I knew it was gang related and outside the school rather than the horror of the "other" kind. Small comfort in that but they didn't even have to tell me that it was possibly gang related, I already know it was. Naturally, there is a chance that could not be true and all other schools in the area are on lockdown because of this incident, but just as a resident with a feel for it I'd say he's long gone, and it was more personal, even though it was still crazy, pointless and horrible.

I can only hope one of the kids shot can identify the shooter and that "snitching" being a thing to avoid will not come into play here. I hope they know who did it or can take a good guess and will be very willing to talk about it.

I feel sad because this part of town has a reputation and that's too bad. Lots of working, normal citizens in the area, not just thugs and drugs.

Oh yeah. I knew they'd get him within 48 hours, just had a feeling on this one. Another life ruined (more than one) because he couldn't figure out not to play with guns.

I was downtown earlier today and saw a SWAT-like team of police riding on the outside of a police assault vehicle in full riot gear. They're either out practicing for the next Portland fiasco or we've got another demonstration brewing!

Brutal. I just saw on my twitter feed that one of the female victims is in critical condition.

It's defeating because gun violence seems to be an every day reality of life.

While a very small percentage of gun deaths occur on school grounds, an estimated 67 children are shot in America's K-12 schools each year. And the ripple effect of school gun violence goes well beyond those who are injured or killed - children who witness gunfire or know a classmate who was killed are also affected. The Washington Post estimates that since the Columbine shooting in 1999, more than 240,000 children in the United States “have experienced gun violence at school.” This is a very important topic for me, so I made huge research in search of new information and recommended you read essays about gun violence, which gave me a lot of new information about such an important topic that is now happening in our country.
