Does anyone have a loved one at Baldwin? I have just started writing a young man there in the Mental Ward and have had no reply in 9 days. He dosent know me and was not on a Pen Pal site. I learned of his situation and wanted to offer friendship and support. He has been there for 5 yrs .:confused:I dont know if the mail there is really slow or even if they gave him the letter. He may not want to respond ??? His story got Natl & Internatl attention so he may be advised by a lawyer not to correspond w/ strangers. Any thoughts or info ?

I think some people who are mentally ill are so tormented by their illness that making sense of letters and such isnt easy on them. They also could be withdrawn, and lastly if his situation got lots of attention then he got lots of mail.

Well okay but just be careful. I don’t know how this is handled in mental facilities. Maybe, they can’t have mail all the time or it’s restricted. It might be more restrictive for them than normal prisoners. I just don’t know. This is what I would try. Look up Baldwin on the net and see if there is an administrative office that you can write to. Draft a VERY professional letter and ask them about some of these issues as it relates to mail. You might just get a form letter in reply but it will give you some more details about regulations so you are not just wondering ya know?

Did you receive ANY reply? If so, how did he sound in that letter? It may be what you are thinking and if he has any kind of pending legal action, I’m certain his attorney would advise him to zip his lip. Part of the problem is there is no way for his defense to know who you are. You could be media, someone wanting to write a book or any number of deterrents to his case. There also might be a different set of rules as it applies to inmate mail within the mental unit structure. That I am totally unfamiliar and wish I could help more but I can’t. Have you tried looking up Baldwin on the internet?

Thanks for nall the replies nI have gotten . I am going to keep writing and hope & pray that somewhere along the way...he may write back.:dunno:

even if he was told not to speak legally speaking, he would still be able to correspond. he just wouldn't be able to speak of the case.

It could be that he loads of mail already and not able to keep up with any more pals. This happens allot, so don't be discouraged if you don't receive a reply.
