Birthday present. Is it allowed?

Hello, everyone. Since the beginning of the year I have been writing with a person from Illinois who has become very important to me. His birthday is coming up soon and I have packed him something small. It is a small box with a pencil case, some pens, a card, a booklet and a dreamcatcher. Now I'm afraid that wouldn't reach him at all because it's not allowed. Do I really have to give up the thought and the wish to be able to send this to him? Can anyone tell me anything?
