Hey there, my pp and Me we are getting closer and after writi g long letters via JPay 4 times a week, we had 3 phone calls and now want to set up for a video call. Please let me know of your experiences about that. He told me that he has to send me an application I have to fill out in advance. After that he will set me on his "visitorlist" and then we could probably find a date for a video call. How is that all working? Do I have to be prepared for something I do not know yet? Do you have any kind of tips I have to keep in mind? Please let me know ;-)  thank you and best wishes, Micky

PS: he is in Minnesota, Stillwater

Hello,
I have video visit with my man since one year due to covid. I have to fill a form online ( but first you have to be in his visit list). I have to write my ID number, I'm not American but my french id it's enough.
I used my cellphone for visit, we spend them the most of time outdoors, he saw the sea for the first time and the horizon. Now the rules are more strict, we can go outside but we have to stay at the same place,no more walk, we have to wear correct clothes, no smoking, no drinking alcohol and the video is recorded... Anyway it's a very good moment, it's another dimension for one hours he is almost home.

Thank you all for your answers. This is really just a nice [email protected] thanks for sharing!!
I am very ver much looking forward to our call-date and hope it to have very soon. But first I need to be accepted for the visitors list in his facility. Today I filled out the application he sent to me. I have a question concerning the ID's which should be enclosed as a photocopy. It's said that it should be either a driving license or ID card. Then at the bottom of the application there was a field for either "passport#" and three other card ID's I never heard before e.g. " Minnesota Tribal Id Card". Is this optional? Inward a little insecure about this ? I do not have that kinds of IDs, because I live in Germany.... can you help me with this?
best wishes, Micky

Thank you Micky for starting this topic. As I am also in the process of being approved for Zoom visits, I am glad to read all those positive experiences. And what a wonderful idea to take them outside with you!

Damn! That sounds awesome Mica! I wish they had an iPhone app :-(

But yeah, videocalls are the next best thing to being there. My one bud hit the prison barber the day before our first videocall – which kind of floored me. He was all pressed and dressed like a General was coming to review the troops or something. Seeing your bud all snappy like that, or heck, just seeing your bud face to face, in real time – it’s pretty freakin’ awesome.

Damn fine haircut too (and yes, haircut envy among guys is a thing).

Aw Mica I love that idea! I'm definitely going to do that next time. Maybe even sit in my garden for the next video call - such a nice idea. My PP always asks about the food I'm eating that day and what snacks I have, especially with me being from the UK, he's so intrigued to see what different food we have here.

I just recently had my first video call with one of my PP's. It was great! It's good you have chatted on the phone first and if the conversation flows well on the phone, it will likely flow well on video call. It is so strange at first to see them live and see their facial expressions (especially as they never smile in their photos, or at least mine doesn't!) but it's a great experience and I highly recommend! I would say the first few minutes were awkward with lots of laughing and smiling then once we were used to the 'live viewing', the conversation flowed as normal and I can't wait for the next one. It makes your PP feel more like your friend, just as though you are FaceTiming them. Good luck with your first video call!
