Does anyone know the best service for an inmate in the USA to call the UK cheaply???

Hi

I've been searching and searching for a phone service that will enable my PP in MCI Concord to call me in the UK cheaply. I've tried to set up prepaid accounts for him but because I'm based in the UK, the companies in the USA tell me that I can't do this? There must be SOME way that I can get a service that I can pay for so he can call me without putting money on his phone card?

Can anyone help me please???

Thank you

x

If he can put money on a phone card to call you Im thinking you could use Skype??? then you just send him the money.
but that all depends if you have to send in a copy of your phone bill??

WU won't send money straight to a DOC or a FBOP from here (NL), So I usually transfer money from my account to my best friend or a buddy of mine, and they sends it to my pp's through Western Union. I have 2 pp's that I send money to (one in a DOC and one in federal). The Western Union here doesn't support Quick Collect, blegh.

I do know that Western Union offers a service to send it online with your creditcard.
I hope this was useful somehow, lol

Hi UKPenPal,

I'm from The Netherlands and I'm having the same problem. US phone companies either don't reply to me at all or they give up after the second e-mail because they think it's becoming too difficult. My PP sent me a copy of a letter by a company called KIRA who offer cheap deals, however, I looked them up on the internet as I didn't quite trust them. Turns out they offer 'cheap' phone deals but 300 min/month at least - where do I find 300 min/month time to spend on the phone??? AND they are looking for investors in Liberia (Africa). So I trust them even less. They didn't reply to my e-mail with questions either. But if anyone has good experiences with them, by all means let me know.

I am wondering indeed if my penpal has a card phone on the facility or if they are all coin phones, because with a card phone I might indeed just send him the money. (by the way: has anyone experienced how difficult it is to send money through Western Union? Is there an easy way to send money from overseas?)

Good luck and let me know if you find something that works. I'll keep searching too.

if you really want to know about that Liberia thing, I can look into it for you. I know Liberia like the back of my hand.

Hi UKPenPal,

I haven't sent funds to a pen pal via WU, but I have sent funds through them to other people and to pay bills. They are a little expensive compared to other services, but they are very trustworthy. The only real advice I can give you is the same advice I'd give to anyone making a money transaction of any kind... TRIPLE CHECK YOUR INFORMATION BEFORE SENDING ANY CASH! It can be a real headache to rectify lost funds through any service, so making sure your recipient information is perfect is the only way to avoid that from happening.
