This is all so new to me, I just found out today that my son is going to prison by a rather rude talking person on the other end of the phone when I called the county jail. My son is in Texas and I live in Canada. I only wanted to get information on how I can contact my son but the person on the phone gave me no information at all. He just said I would have to wait until my son writes to me..no suggestion on how to get my address to my son as my husband and I just moved. I'm scared for him and I am sad for me. At this point I do not know what to do or even sure how to feel. I just needed to put it in writing somewhere. Thank you for reading this and I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong place or offended anyone.

hi and welcome to WAP :)
is your son in the custody of the state or still with the county? i don't know how texas works it's incarceration procedures (like if he would stay in the custody of the county or go to a state prison) since i'm in louisiana (i don't know the offense either), but sometimes they'll stay in county jail if the offense isn't a major felony. you can always write to him at the county jail (address should easily be found via google), and if it gets returned to you (if they move him out before your letter gets there), you can go check out vinelink.com and see what institution they put him in.
sorry i can't be more help :(
Aw sunlover :(
Welcome here and goodluck! Sorry I can't help you; I'm from Europe.
He is still in the county jail, I suppose waiting on transfer. His offense was DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED/OPEN ALCH CONTAINER

I don't know any more particulars about the charges other than what I posted above.
This is all so new to me and something as most I'm sure never expected to experience in my life. I'm very very sad, my mind is racing and I'm really scared for him, which I can only assume are normal feelings to have being a mom. Living in another country does not help either. Guess I was just searching for somewhere to be able to express my feelings and learn about all this stuff without being judged. Looks like I found it, I feel like I found the place and thank you so much for that.
If you found out where he is to write him, just make sure you use his Doc ID because mail won't get there without it. His Department Identification No. County may have a different one from state but if he is currently housed at county and you write and they move him they will likely forward the mail. If they do not, TDCJ has an inmate locator and you can find where they put him within the state. Good luck and you'll find good people here.
