New with a few questions

Hi all! I’m fairly new to this and I’ve been communicating with one inmate. I was wondering if anyone has sent pictures of themselves to their pen pal? If so, how long did you wait to send them? I would assume that it’s different for everyone, based on how/when they felt comfortable enough to do so. Just looking for a general consensus.

Thanks!

Welcome!

I sent my first letter with WAP and they gave me an option to add a photo of myself, so I did. It's just a personal preference on whether you feel comfortable doing it so early on. With my penpal, just based on his profile I got a sense that it would be fine to attach images, and I was right, but maybe just correspond with them a few times and then judge if you feel comfortable with the idea behind it.

It's definitely a personal preference. I've had pen-pals where we never exchanged photos, others have asked in their first letter. I've never shared pics of my children with any of my pen-pals (other than my husband who is a lifer), but I have sent pics of myself if they've asked. One of my pen-pals we have exchanged video grams which is fun. Go at your pace.

Thank you. I agree with never sending pictures of my child, in fear of them getting into someone else’s hands.

Thank you, I appreciate the advice. Based on his profile and the communication that we’ve had so far (quite a few emails per day), I do sense that it’ll be ok but I think I’m still going to take the time to be sure.

Oh, well, most of the guys I wrote to did have a photo of themselves with their ads. (One did not, but the ad spoke to me so I wrote anyway). Therefore I felt it would just be fair to send them one of myself. I took the one you can see in my profile, so nothing spectacular, but my face clearly to be seen. Last summer I took a few pics (including selfies) at a place in nature that has a special meaning for me. These pics I sent to the two of my pps with whom I have a deeper connection than with the others, both explaining the place, its meaning for me and show me at this place. But this developed through the conversation as it went and you certainly can take any time you want or need.

Have fun and happy writing!
