What you need to do in life is return to that mind you possessed as a child, opening up to experience instead of closing it off. Just imagine for a day that you do not know anything, that what you believe can be completely false. Let go of your preconceptions and even your most cherished beliefs. Experiment. Force yourself to hold the opposite opinion or see the world through your enemy's eyes. Listen to the people around you with more attentiveness. See everything as a source for education - even the most banal encounters. Imagine that the world is still full of mystery. When you operate this way, you will notice that something strange often happens. Opportunities will begin to fall in your lap because you are suddenly more receptive to them. Sometimes luck or serendipity is more a function of the openness of your mind. What you must do is instead accept the fact that all events occur for a reason and that it is within our capacity to see this reason as a positive. Marcus Aurelius compared this to a fire that consumes everything in its path - all circumstances become consumed in your mental heat and converted into opportunities, A man or woman who believes this cannot be hurt by anything or anyone.

Whenever I read such profound words, just like Carmen my first thought is 'I wonder if the author actually has done or experienced the words written?'. My second thought is usually, did they actually write it themselves, or just copy it from some website that actually isn't in touch with reality as it exists today. On the surface it all sounds so idealistic and wonderful.... but is it even possible? Of course not.  The opportunities spoken of are already in existence, and opening up the mind to be aware or receptive does not involve trying to empty the head of everything else. Because in doing so, how do we even begin to rationlize or make comparisons from previous experiences to enable us to make a considered and correct decision? Not all opportunities are good or even right. Some could easily lead us into places we shouldn't go, and without the ability to use stored information to help us utilize our common sense along with other vital sensory perceptions, is pure madness.  I'm not even sure why this particular prose has been put onto this forum to be honest, how does it correlate to what we're all here for?  A little harsh in my thoughts? Perhaps, but I'm also a realist, and this is anything but  real  to me.

Very wise, very beautiful and very true.

I just wonder; did you yourself ever managed to "Just imagine for a day that you do not know anything, that what you believe can be completely false. Let go of your preconceptions and even your most cherished beliefs." Because for me, that is absolutely not possible. Not even for an hour, let alone a whole day.

Because for starters, it would mean that I'd consider your words to be false...
