My man is doing life with chance of Parole after 25yrs in a State that doesn’t actually offer parole to anyone who committed their crime after Jan 1994....go figure. Pretty sure it’s an illegal sentence when no one is telling them at the time that they are essentially doing lwop. We’ll see in Jan 2019 when the first lot of 25yr sentences have been completed

Thank you so much Springs944, Zarchery, CLW and Deckard for your input. This inmate is in his early 30s (he was starting a family before his crime) and I think his sentence is life without parole.
No, thank YOU for not dropping the 'r' from my name. You have no idea how often that happens.

They have a Podcast I listen to dedicated to this. You may want to check it out. Its called Wrongful Conviction. They have at least 20 episodes so yeah, it can happen. Someone I write actually had their sentence reduced from death to life, so miracles do happen.

It's not likely a sentence is changed or reduced, but for some it is possible to apply for parole if they are eligible. That means a prisoner can be released after a certain minimum of time and under certain conditions, so he or she does not have to complete the full sentence in prison.

Well, it can and does happen, but it's pretty rare. I think it usually only happens if the convicted is exonerated in a court of law.

It’s unlikely but depends on the circumstances and it can also depend on the State the inmate is incarcerated in. Are we talking Life with possibility of parole? How old were they when they committed the crime. So many factors. I would say that it’s unlikely though unless there are extreme mitigating circumstances.
