Hey people,

My girlfriend writes to someone at MCI SHIRLEY in Massachusetts. They had a riot on Jan 10th and have been on modified lockdown, I guess. Does anyone know if they are able to make phone calls during modified? Is anyone familiar with what is going on at this facility?

He had actually been at Norfolk Mass until a few months ago. He said the guards were always tossing his cell and harassing him so he asked to be transferred to SHIRLEY, which I don't believe. I don't think the prison cares much whether you are happy with your accommodations or not. I was told they only transfer people for PC reasons or if that person was too problematic. Does anyone know anything about that as well?????? Is there any way to contact the prison and find out or would that be considered to be confidential?
She had actually moved to Massachusetts to be near him and moved back here to PA to be with her new grandson. That did not work out so she sent him money to have one of his friends come get her and bring her back to Mass. He said they would be there Saturday. Nobody showed and he did not call. She was literally almost on the street!!! He spoke to another friend yesterday and said he had not called because he was on modified and they let her know that. He had also told her that he had a lot of money from when he was a drug dealer before he got locked up. Wouldn't you think that money would have been spent on a lawyer? He most likely was victimizing people in there and maybe that is why he got in trouble? If he has his hustle in there and is making money then why would he put in for a transfer only to have to start all over again to get situated?

I don't like this guy but if someone tells me different I will try to keep an open mind for my friend's sake. i welcome any information, facts and opinions.

Thanks! :detective::detective:

Why do you even stay in a relationship with this women when she does so much for another man. That would be an immediate red flag for me and reason alone to drop her. She doesnt seem that bright in addition which is another reason.
So yeah i recommend to leave this relationship as soon as possible because you wont be happy with her in the long term in my eyes.

I believe "girlfriend" here means a girl who is a friend, rather than someone who Phillygurl is in a romantic relationship with. It's a peculiar Americanism.

Don?t consider this as an insult but rather my opinion:

Yes....I totally agree. He finally did call and she is going back to Massachusettes. So I guess I will just have to see what happens.

Thanks :)

My gut says this dude smells fishier than an un-refrigerated tuna trawler.

The armed robbery charges I can believe because that seems to be a Latin Kings "thing" (well, part of their "thing" anyway). Even if dude had his own sufficient financial assets, participating in armed robberies may have been part of expected gang participation?

Now about all this money he supposedly has stashed away and is bragging about...well, I highly suspect if he did have any assets in his own name when he was convicted that they would have been seized or frozen by the courts. It's possible that assets could be hidden, but the courts do try to track any hidden assets down, I believe.

Has this friend of yours been regularly sending him cash? Has she sent cash to associates and/or "friends" of his before? I presume that while she was living in Massachusetts before she was making visits to see him?

I have never heard of an inmate being moved simply because he had "issues" with his accommodation. People get moved for overcrowding reasons if there is more space in another institution, people get moved for medical reasons or for access to treatment programs sometimes, but mostly they get moved because they either have caused trouble or their presence there is likely to cause trouble. Often is is because they have done something which endangers their physical safety if they remain in the same prison. Pretty sure prison isn't the Ritz; you can't ask for an upgrade :) Chances are that if the guards were indeed always tossing his cell, they had good reason to do so given his declared gang affiliation?

As for "retiring"...well, I don't know...but it would think just hanging up your hat would be difficult from what I've read...unless he decided to go the debriefing route and voluntarily rolled over on the gang and spent the rest of his time in PC? This is an interesting read: http://newsarchive.medill.northwestern.edu/chicago/news-200885.html

Honestly, having read a bit about the Latin Kings, I sure as hell wouldn't be anxious to get involved in a romantic relationship with a member.

Sometimes love is not only blind, but blindingly stupid. As vynte has already pointed out though, it may not matter how much info you find out about this guy or what you say to this friend; she may have to come to awareness all by herself. That could be a very painful, lengthy process.

Exactly.....I let her know that I am not sure he is being 100% honest with her and explained why I felt that way. But for some reason she is blindly devoted and not able to even consider the fact that he may be lying about some things. So I told her that if she is happy then of course I support her happiness. I can't help her get out of something she does not want out of. She already has lost the relationships of most of her friends and family who do not support her in this and will have nothing to do with her now. Their sarcastic comments and insulting her by calling her stupid, etc. etc. have really hurt her heart and has done nothing to change how she feels abut him. In the end, very few relationships between men and women actually work out on a permanent basis, even marriages. So if it doesn't work out it isn't even necessarily because he is an inmate. Lots of guys lie. But because he is in prison they are treating her like a pariah. That is not the kind of friend I am. And of course I am more okay with it because I have a friend locked up.

You can collect all the factual information you can find, and present every bit of it to your girlfriend, but is she going to take what you say on board, or is she so caught up with this man that she is going to be willfully oblivious to what you say? I know you want to be a good friend, Phillygurl, but sometimes the way to do that is to help your friend pick up the pieces of their broken heart.

I think your girlfriend needs to figure out why she is tangled up in this mess and get out of it immediately. its certain he's lying about everything. Finding out what's a lie and what is truth will be nearly impossible. Its highly doubtful that he's 'retired' from his gang. He may not have gotten a lawyer because he's guilty and a lawyer wouldn't have been able to help him. Also just because you have money doesnt mean you are exempt from committing crimes. Why is she putting herself in such a vulnerable position for this guy? Instead of investigating for her I'd be helping her get out of whatever she gotten herself into.

Oh and he was a big shot in the Latin Kings and a shot caller....but now he is retired. Wouldn't the Latin Kings get upset if he did not support the gang in prison????

I'm sorry---I keep thinking of more stuff that sounds not quite right with him.

O yeah...something is that does not sit right with me.....he was convicted of armed robbery. If he has so much money than why is he out committing armed robbery and risking all that jail time? He has been in for around 12 years. He also said that he was retired from the Latin Kings. I am getting conflicting info on whether someone can retire from a gang like that. My girlfriend knows very little about prison and gangs and stuff like that. She is also not a major snoop like me. She is not good with the computer and doesn't know how to investigate things. I know a little, but I know some of you guys have far greater and superior investigating skills and are a lot more knowledgeable than me so again....anything you can tell me.
