I'd like to know at this point what percentage chance I have of getting a reply.  I sent a message to a Texas inmate using WAP site on 1/7/21.  Now, there is a chance that this letter didn't get sent out from WAP until the end of the month as I sent it the same day as the mail was sent out for early month deliveries.    I went and checked my POBox today and nothing.  Now I also know that international mail will take about 10-16 day to get to me from Texas.   So basically this leaves about a month between the time the inmate probably got it and when I should probably get it.   I realize the inmate may not have had money to buy stamps, no chance to buy stamps, etc.  So I am still hopefully that maybe by the end of the month or maybe even April I may see a reply.  If not, should I try again using Jmail instead or give up and choose another?

Once you click  on the jpay sent folder you get a sort of pop up notification saying "your message will appear in this folder after it is delivered to your contact's facility". And my email was not showing up in that folder. Unfortunately jpay never really sent me an email or a response to why my email was never delivered to my potential pp's facility even after trying to contact them twice.

Thank you so much, I hope I will get an answer after all this waiting

Zoo Zoo, how did you know that your mail was not delivered by JPay? And what did they say about that, what caused your email to not being delivered?

I think your pp is very lucky to have found such a persistant person! I hope you can start your correspondence very soon and that it will be worth all the initial hassle.

Hey,

I have a similar at story happened to me back in January actually. Only difference is I had sent out a jpay email first but it was never delivered. So I decided to send a WAPmail. And still nothing. I had to contact jpay twice to let them know that my email is not even being delivered to the facility since January 12th which is quite odd. My letter  finally has been pushed through the system a couple of days ago, so now I'm just waiting for the letter to reach the hands of my potential pp.

I`ve been using Jmail for half a year now so I`ll try to answer your questions. You have the option to send letters out through Jmail to the inmates, this has never been a problem to me though this letter might take 4 days or up to a week to get delievered so if you want a faster way, I`d recommend using Jpay cause they mostly get it on the same or next day (except on weekends). The inmate can write back to your Jmail address through snail mail, which for me usually takes 5 to 10 days, it always differs a bit. There, they will scan it and upload it to you in a PDF form, so you can read it. If you want to use Jmail only to receive letters and not send them out through them, I`d recommend letting your penpal know about your Jmail address in a Jpay. I hope this cleared up some confusion, let me know if you have any more questions!

Thank you for that Maxi and Carmen, appreciate it.

But how do I know if my inmate can get Jmail?  No one can reply to jpay, jpay is just a way for me to send the letter out, but they either have to snail mail me or use jmail I think.   They are in Marlin, TX and the other I am about to write is at Ft. Worth.     Can they both reply via jmail?  I am considering to write via jpay, and then give them my jmail address to reply.  I believe the letter will be scanned and uploaded at the prisons discretion.

sould is should and from is from your initial letter. Still not enough patience to double check hahaha!

I think your WAP email has been posted the 23th of Januari and that means your pp would have gotten it the last days of Januari. Let's say it took him a week to compose a reply and as he is looking for a pp, I'd say he would have some stamps ready, but we'll give him another week to sort that out. So half of Februari the reply sould be on its way to you. Let's say the mail is very slow and it takes 3 weeks to get to you, than that would have been the first week of March, which is 2 months later from . So it looks like there is something going on.

I would sent him the same letter through Jpay, with a little extra note saying you want to make sure he has the right address and your first letter didn't get lost or so. Then I would wait for 3 weeks (1 week for return writing, 2 weeks for the mail to deliver) and if you hadn't had a response by that time, I would look for another pp.

One thing you'll learn (well I had to learn it), is that patience is a virtue you need as a WAP pp. But for me, that's also the beauty of it in a way. This whole process slows me down, it makes me mindful of the communication between me and my pp.

I hope it all works out in a good way and hopefully tomorrow there will be a letter for you, fingers crossed!

Correct. It can easily take 2 months or more sometimes.

Make sure to figure out if your PP can reply via Jpay. He may have access to your mail but can only reply via postal (so you need to include a return address). That would still be a little faster but not much.
