Been reading through posts on here, and other sites, and I've come across some conflicting advice on rules, so wondered if anyone can clarify:

Wrote to two Texas inmates, one on Death Row. Used patterned paper for each to write on. Blank (no patterns/drawings) envelope, with return address. Will the paper get through? Also, how many pages are too many pages? I kept these intro messages short, just in case, but it would be handy for future reference.

Florida inmate: should I not reference his ad? How the hell do I send a first letter that doesn't seem ridiculous without referencing? I haven't sent this first letter to him out yet, so I have a bit of time (was planning on doing so tomorrow).

Thanks for any help.

Thank you, that's helped a lot! :) Now I can prepare myself to hopefully write some longer letters on A4. Yay!

Hello!

I've never written on A4 paper to my pal before. It isn't much larger than standard paper here in the US, and many people from overseas use the A4 paper to write their pals.

I don't think there would be a problem with it at all.

I've used letter size envelopes to mail my letters so I didn't have to fold them and they got through just fine. :)

I hope I've helped :)

Also, is there a size limit on the envelope? E.g would I have to fold A4 paper or can I just shove it in an A4 envelope, therefore keeping it thinner?

So many questions!

And that can be A4 paper, right? I used small letter writing paper this time, but I can get rather wordy so I imagine I'll be progressing to A4. LOL. Also, is it okay to draw/paint on the pages? I know you can't use stickers. What about gel pens?

Thanks for the tips on the FL PP. I wrote a new version tonight and wrote 'I heard that you could do with a friend, so I thought I would drop you a line and say hello, all the way from rainy old England...'. Hope that works okay!

Cheers for the tips, Skye!

In Texas, you can't send blank paper or envelopes. They will generally deny the mail as contraband, and give the offender the chance to mail it to you or someone else, or to destroy the contraband. The offender generally won't get in any trouble.

As far as how many pages, I'm sure. I've never written more than 10 pages. I was recently informed that it can vary by mail room, and I really depends on who is working at that time. It is best to keep the envelope under 1/4 inch in thickness. I've heard rumors of mailing in 25 to 50 pages before, I'm not sure how 'true' that is.

As far as FL goes. Just say I heard from a friend that you could use mail. Since we have some of the same likes, and dislikes, I thought I'd give this a shot :)
