I know we can purchase books as long as they're directly delivered to the facility but does that include activity books? Like crossword, puzzle, riddle, etc. books? I was thinking of sending one to my pp with a reading book as kind of a surprise. I've looked everywhere but haven't found anything stating it's against the rules.
Btw, he's at a prison in CO.

Books to federal are a snap. I've used direct shipments from amazon with zero issues, even used books from third-party vendors via amazon (though it helps if they have "books" or "bookstore in the name of the business). One thing to keep in mind: hardcover books are not allowed for inmates with higher security classifications, or in the SHU. Paperbacks are fine in just about every case. Another thing to keep in mind, sometimes inmates are restricted to how many books they may keep in their possession. I tell my buds to just donate books I've sent to the prison library after they've finished.
Hi Guys, sorry but i have a question: i want to send some books to my inmate, she is serving time in a california federal prison, does someone know how can i do that please?
Unfortunately Carlotta24, that's not allowed, you can't send personal items but you could buy a new copy from Amazon, or I think Barnes and Noble and get it delivered to the prison. There are only a few places you can get books delivered to inmates from.
Hello guys, I want to send to my inmate penpal some books that I already have at home for his birthday, is it permitted? I really want to send him this present.
I called the facility and they said it should be fine. Now I’m just trying to decide if I should do easy puzzles with variety or just all mazes that are more challenging?
Did you get refunded Kate? And/ or notified why it wasn t allowed?
I know my penpal in CO, didn't receive the printed crossword I sent last year but I've never sent an actual puzzle one. Let us know.
I think that should be ok, long as they come from the approved vendor for the facility he is in
