Hi everyone, I'm new to this here, have just started corresponding with my pp in california via jpay this past week.. We got onto the topic of photos and although I know I could send some via jpay I'd quite like to send some via snail mail so he has them to keep. My pp has some photos that he'd like to send me which he has said I can copy and then send them back.. I'd like to cover the cost of postage for this so was wondering if there was a way I could send my photos with a pre stamped/self addressed envelope for him to send his photos in at no cost to him? Is that allowed by the prison? I mean I don't even know if I can go to the post office and do anything like that, I've not had a pp for about 17 years haha. I'm not sure how it all works. I'm in the UK if that makes any difference. I'm sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place

Hey ST4s, thanks for your reply. I didn't think it would be allowed but it was worth an ask.. I'll probably go down the route you suggested if he'll allow me too.. He hasn't asked for any money, but some of the photos he wants to send are with his family which would mean them sending the photos to me (they're photos of where he grew up) and did mention he would pay for me to send the photos back to his family but I feel like it's a lot of effort (also the cost) on his part so it's something I'd like to pay for. I just don't want to offend him in anyway by mentioning it. He has just mentioned today actually about him sending me a visitation form so in the future we can video call, he's never had a video visitation before! I have a scanner myself so the plan was to scan the photos and upload to my phone then I can print them out but also keep them on my phone like you do yourself, that way if he does misplace any I can reprint them for him. Taking your buds on your travels with you - I love that and I bet your buds do too! :-)
Hey Sgpops, good on you for writing! Alas, a prepaid return envelope is almost universally disallowed. Your best bet to defray the cost of postage would be to post a payment to your pp’s books. That process varies widely, and in several jurisdictions, you’d need to be on your pp’s approved visitors list first.
I do the photo lab thing for my buds too. Any time one shows up, I’ll make a high-resolution scan and keep it on file. These can be used to make duplicates, replace lost or confiscated things later on (disappearing property is a thing), and/or in my case, added to the photo album on my phone so my buds can come along on my travels.
