Hi Everyone,

Im sure this has been covered somehwere else but i cannot find the thread for it. Does anyone know the rules relating to mail for prisons in Texas. Is there any weight restrictions and are pictures allowed.

Any rough ideas how long a letter would take to get from the US to the UK as i sent my letter 3 weeks ago and iv heard nothing, although he is on DR does this make a difference? I have recieved one letter back from another man in the same place but who is not on DR, so i would think that both letters were delivered i just cant work out why the other is taking so long.

If i dont hear back at all, should i write again and ask if he got my letter?

Any thoughts would be welcomed - thank you:cheer_icoon:

Hi
My pp is in TX and I always put my name and address on the back of the envelope and have had no problems.
It takes a week from the UK for him to receive my mail and a week for me to receive his.

Good one Quint HA HA !!! . Though I think the Mousekeeters are past my time . The real gang is Mexican Mafia That is Why Micky Mouse is used . The MM . ABs also use cartoon characters and they can be banned as well sad really . A kid has no clue why they cannot weara cartoon chracter ona T shirt to visit a parent or relative :shakehead:

To Answer the question about post cards and return addresses. On a Post card . I just put my return address in a spot close to where it should be on a regular envelope . As long as it can be read it should get through .

I have not seen a return address on the back of an envelope so I can only make a guess . It might or might not get ot the offender . Writing to the US it is probably a good idea to put your return address on the upper left corner . That way there is not any confusion

. My guess is some post cards have some sort of gang associations . That is why Micky Mouse shirts are banned in visitation a gang has appropriated him

.

Ya . I have heard about this gang. They are called the Mouskiteers. They area an Orlando and California based gang. I heard about there O.G. Members, Annette Futachello and Frankie Avalon. Rumor has it those two started it out as a hard core surfer/ beach gang .

Latly though I have heard the gang now has broken off into sects such as The Jonas Bros. Rough crowd.

HAHA. Sorry ASE could not resist.

Holland here is the way I address my nephew`s letters to a Texas
correctional facility. Unless Holland requires a different format for mailing
letters, here in this country we do it as follows:

Mr. John Smith #1015532
Micheals Unit
P.O. Box 4500
Tennessee Colony, TX 75886

Now, my nephew`s name is written right in the middle of the envelope.
with the address just below.

Your return address should be on the left upper side of the envelope
right near the top corner.

Hope this helps.

I am in Milwaukee, Wisoncon U.S.A.

I'm sure it is. More than once it took around six weeks from Israel to my pp on Death Row at Union at Raiford, Florida, even though a letter to someone in Miami and not incarcerated took a week. :(

You best bet is to send the post card by itself . When writing a person In TDCJ you should have their name and number on as well as your return address on every piece of mail . I would send postcards separately TDCJ frowns on blan or un addressed postcards . Oddly they allow photos the same shape and size of a postcard . My guess is some post cards have some sort of gang associations . That is why Micky Mouse shirts are banned in visitation a gang has appropriated him :(

If a letter is taking a month to reach an offender in TDCJ chances are he or she might be up to no good and is being watched by STG . Then there is DR and their gruopies who have been misusing mail so all of their letters are are least read many are copied . The same would be true for a verified STG offender . Despite those who think there is some sort of conspiracy ter is not TDCJ does not have the man power to do that . They can barley keep enough bosses to run the units. Some offenders are tagged to have their mail scrutinized and some letters might not get to them and many have large negative mailing / contact list because of abuse of mail not because TDCJ is out to get that person . Yes there will be mistakes on larger units . If you are writing DR on Polunsky it might take a while because of a few offenders / gruopies behavior and abuse of mail .

That really sucks that the mail has taken about a month to get to the prisoner. Maybe the prisons should hire more ppl to work in the mailroom, so the inmates could get the letters from their pen-pals.
I've written to my pen-pal in Huntsville, Tx and he hasn't written back. (I live in South Tx) Maybe in my case, his privleges have been taken away. ?????
He says he likes me and I like him too, so why would he take long?

OMG is this true that a mail has taken about one month to get to the prisoner???

Thanks so much :) I would like to send it in an envelope, I mean the envelope included the postcard. Do you think if the embossed printing on the birthday card is allowed? Thanks again :)

Postcards are not a problem if you use the correct address, use a return address . Do not contain nudity or maps . Just follow normal TDCJ correspondence rules .

ASE, thanks for the info about DR and Security Threat. My pp is in Ad Seg as a Security Threat. I knew our mail - any mail to anybody - was going to be read, but his takes the absolute longest to get back. I write a lot so he had probably like 3 letters from me before I ever got my first reply. He didn't even realize I hadn't had his first reply yet.

Now the thought of them scanning and keeping - THAT is something. I write pages and pages and I feel for the poor slobs who have to read my monologues. Someone who is looking forward to it can appreciate a 20 page letter, someone who is doing it for a living is probably bored stiff.

Maybe sometimes just stiff, but that's for another post. LOL.

Many things can come in the way of mail. Sometimes offenders go through periods where they get overwhelmed and it slows them down a bit, or the unit could be on lockdown, he could be low on funds and may not have the postage or writing materials to write straight away. Maybe send him a funny greeting card or even a post card in the in between time ?

Hi, I am new here. I have been writing to a penpal in Hughes Unit in Texas now for a couple of months now. I live in Australia too. It usually takes about 9 - 10 days for me to receive a letter from him, but it only takes 7 days to get there with mine. Not much of a difference. I guess it just depends on the people in the mail room. I hope this helps.

I imagine that has more to do with the prison itself and the procedure following the mail delivery and not the actual transit time to and from the UK. I might be wrong but it stands to reason that if you are paying the same amount of postage and sending the letter by the same method, the delay is more likely to be caused by the mail room or how backed up they are or whatever else is going on within the prison itself. Personal mail will never be top priority as legal mail is time sensitive so that would need to be screened and dispersed first.

Hiya, just wanted to add that i am in the UK and write people in Polunsky... sometimes my letters get there in about 7-10 days... other times it can be ageeeeeees... my last few letters took almost a month to get to the guy.. then my reply took 7 days to get here.. go figure.....

I wouldn't count down the days from Texas hun.. it's so unpredictable... just like Cali!!

well i'm overseas and it does take a long time till d got his letter.
i think it's the fault from the mailroom d told me he always got a lot letters at the same day, maybe they keep them behind and when it become a lot they will give them at the prisoners.

HI! And welcome to WAP!

In Texas, within the TDCJ, you can not take anything into visitation with you, except for 20$ in coins.

You can, however, send in printed photos on paper or photo paper. I do this all the time.

If you haven't heard back, I would send a short hello card and let them you know you had not heard back and were writing to check their pulse :)

Just wanted to see if anyone had problems sending computer-printed pictures to correction facilities in Texas? I know some facilities only allow visitors to bring in "glossy/developed"-based photos but I wasn't sure if this policy also applied to mail?

I was writing to two pp's in Texas and did not hear back from either one ever since I sent a computer-printed photograph. Either there is something with the mail or my pp's didn't like the picture I sent!?! :pnord:

Thanks!

When Junior was on Death Row he received my letters in 4 days. Just like now, 3 to 4 days. I can only imagine that from overseas is a little longer.

For TX add at least one day from the time your letter gets to the prison untill you pal gets it . Polunsky is a bit slower as they are more carefull when they scan the mail . Also ALL DR correspondence in and out going, is copied that will slow it down . As is any mail going to a know gang member or other security threat as they are called

Keep in mind Polunsky houses nearly 3,000 prisoners so it takes a while Mail room staff has only so much time and man power . this goes for and TDC Unit Usually it takes at least approximately 8-10 days between letters in he US .

In Texas there is not a weight limit per-say. They generally don't want someone mailing in 30 or more pages at once, unless it is considered legal mail.

The same goes for pictures. As long as the pictures as regular pictures, there is no limit for the amount that can be sent in.

My husband was at Polunsky on death row at one time, and I never had a problem with the amount of pictures I mailed in. :)

The guys on death row sometimes take a minute to respond. Sometimes for various reasons, but around the time of executions the mail gets a little slow for them, especially if they were close to the party being executed.

Often times the inmates on death row find themselves indigent and they are only allowed to mail out so much per week, so their mail may run slow.

I wouldn't worry yet, but what I would do is send a little hello card and let them know you wrote but are unsure if they received your letter.

Good luck and happy writing.
