Greetings:

I send a typewritten letter to an inmate whom I write to regularly. It was rejected and a form came back alleging that I had send him contraband. I contacted the facility and the C.O. merely parroted back what the form said, not offering any specific details.

Are typewritten notes in all capital letters a problem, or what?

Never had a problem with typed letters (3) here so far. I usually type the letter (because it´s so much easier and faster for me) and sign it with my hand written signature (given name and last name).
My pen pal is securitry classification level 2 (minimum).

If I were you I would call the facility again and ask for a more detailed explanation.

AUTHORITIES MIGHT THINK THAT TYPING IN ALL CAPS IS ACTUALLY A (CRIMINAL) SECRET CODE OF SOME KIND surprise

Well, maybe the ALL CAPITAL LETTERS are the problem. In Germany those are use to insinuate yelling at someone - or in blackmail letters, like after a kidnapping to avoid being able to identify anyone through the handwriting. I do not know how this is handled in the US, but in Germany you might get a prob with that one.

Check the content...did you use any words that raised a red flag? Or was it on colored paper that may not be allowed or did it smell of anything? Other than that they are been ridiculous

That is insane!! How can that be contraband?!? I typed a letter to my PP because its faster and easier for me that way. I hope they don't send it back.
Good luck next time
