we're not supposed to send our "own" books but can we send them the used books through amazon? I would like to send a bunch and it really can cut the price in half.

I have sent used books via Amazon to inmates in TDCJ. They are OK as long as the bookseller is a company and not just an individual. I would avoid books that have handwritten notes inside on the margins etc

I suppose with so many things, it depends on the prison and state. My penpal ordered a book through Amazon, but it was used. So, it got returned. He was in SuperMax at the time, so, that, too, may have had something to do with it.

Hi,

this is a very interesting Question because I am a commercial bookseller at amazon in Germany. So I asked myself if I could send a book to my penpal.

Maybe there is no law about this special case.

I suppose that you might be able to do that. I used to believe that all books had to be brand new. But, then, I did order a "used" book through Amazon, and it went in without any problem. I think that as long as there is some kind of label, from the book store, that they will accept them. It sure seems worth a try. Good luck with it. :-)
