Hi,

so I created a profile on Corrlinks and I've been messaging an inmate who seems really nice. He asked how I felt about calling and I said yeah I'd consider it, and asked if I just needed to send him my number. He said yeah, and I was going to send it because I'd want to speak to him. Anyway, last night I received a call from him but I hadn't sent him my number yet. I was really confused and kinda freaked out about how hed got my number. Can the inmates access your number by having you as a contact on corrlinks? Ir has he somehow found another way, I'm really confused?
thank you

@ sophie2807, it's interesting that you mention 2 of your PP being able to see your phone number. Mine in Mendota, California was not able to see nor my phone nor my address and they have to have written permission to call anyway. So either he isn't computer literate (which mine isn't much) or it might depend on what the facility let go through. He got my address and mail to add through the initial letter he received. I later sent my phone number so he could call me (even if on GTL it said that international calls aren't allowed from that facility). I don't know how he managed but I'm not asking ...;).

Yes, I know that when creating an account on Corrlinks both your address & phone number are mandatory. I know your phone number is visible as two PPs have now told me this, and call me. Fortunately they only did so after asking me if it was okay, though I can imagine though in some cases it may be a problem. I am still not sure whether your address is visible to the inmates?

That's an interesting update for Corrlinks. I feel like that's a bit odd to make that information available, since generally our phone numbers are quite a private thing, to be given to those we trust. It should be up to the person to decide to divulge their number or not.

@ ST4s

So, the phone number is on for the beginning. Because it is mandatory to put one in by now. Ok, good to know, thanks. Because I'm just waiting for an invitation right now, so it definitely comes at the right moment. I hope I won't just get a call before I get an email. *lol*

Update for anyone reading: if your contact details are on your account on Corrlinks, the inmates can see it, I have confirmed this.

Yeah I think it's mandatory now - I just tried to remove it to see and it said I must fill it in. Yeah, I was gonna give it to him - so I don't mind really, just curious as to how he got it so just hoping it is through Corrlinks and nothing else! Next time he calls hopefully I'll be able to answer!

Hmm. CorrLinks didn’t have a mandatory phone number thing for me when I opened my account, but that was years ago. Maybe that’s changed? And if I pull up my CorrLinks account now, there’s no record of my phone number in there anywhere, though my buds who have it, have it. Maybe it’s linked on their end?

To your question, that was just a guess on my part. For the best answer, ask your bud (and come back and let us know!) You were about to give him your number anyway, right?

I’d say go for it! Phone calls are awesome!!!

Yeah I entered it in that information as it had an asterix next to it when I filled it in. I really don't mind if that's what happened, I just got a bit confused and freaked out when I listened to the voicemail as I hadnt sent it yet but I was going to!
So, just to check, if I entered it, they can see it?

Did you enter your phone number in the “my contact information” on your CorrLinks account? Doing so is optional, as only your name, address and login email address are required. If so, I’d expect that’s how he got your number. If not, I’d expect he had an outside someone look it up for him.

One of my buds was out of writing paper once and wrote me on the backs of his own contact list printout pages from CorrLinks – called Trulincs on the inside, kind of a catch-all database for all kinds of things. Sneaky me used that to set up the smartphone I got him for release day, so his contacts were ready to go.
