Here's an interesting topic! If you visited your PP, or met them after released, did they look how you expected them to look? On another similar topic, if your PP sent you additional photos other than the one(s) on their profile, did they look the same?

Going to be honest here. My PP's family member sent me their most recent visit photo and I did not recognize him from the photos I've seen (the one on his profile, and a couple I've seen on his family's social media). He doesn't look older, or younger, or a different weight,  just has a different hair cut and wearing glasses. Maybe it's those things plus the facial expression. I know the prison visitation photos don't always come out very flattering.

(Not that it matters what they look like - I was just taken aback at first is all! And now I'm having a hard time matching a face to a voice/letters because I have two different images in my head!)

I was also shocked when I found another pic of my PP somewhere on the internet. On the photo at WAP he had a much darker skin then the one I saw later. I don't care of course, but it's just strange. They were both crappy pictures, so I guess the truth will be somewhere in the middle.

Rosie 11190 I get that you are a bit confused if you PP looks so different. Maybe it is a bit like 'the morning after the night before'? You know, what us girls usually have: your mascara is only on your cheeks visible, your lipstick is nowhere to be seen (kiss proof, NOT) and heaven knows what has happened to your hair, in a few hours it suddenly became coupe 'poodle'. So he might look a bit different with his glasses on and maybe he ran out of hairgel, but you know, it still is the same guy and I am sure his eyes and smile are the same. And that is what really matters, isn't it?

I actually was thinking the same about my penpal. On the website he has 3 pics, then he sent me one extra and online he has his mugshot featured in some article. Sometimes I wonder how is that the same person hehe but I think it's the hair and tattoos that made a difference. On the mugshot photo he has minimal tattoos and shaved head, on the profile here he has one pic where you can see a different haircut and a lot of tattoos on his neck, etc. I guess that's the difference. I've never seen him in real life but I really hope that one day I will, would be cool to see the real person behind all these letters. :)

"Mature"! Lol!
I definitely think it's the angle, different hair, glasses, facial expression (looks like mid-laughing), and general unflattering prison photography.   FYI the ones I first saw weren't "selfies", they were also taken by someone else or next to people.

Now that I think about it, I myself have seen group photos of myself where it's completely unflattering and I look like a different person in it (usually mid-laughing; talking expressively, the camera glare etc). Like my nose looks like a big pickle (when it doesn't in other photos or real life), beady eyes, and my head looks very square. LOL!!

It got so nerve racking that I've been getting really close with my PP, he's my bestie already and there's definitely romantic sparks as well so I was thinking my goodness what would happen when I visit and it's a shocker where there's no chance of physical connection (attraction)? (The picture wasn't THAT bad at all, I'm just saying lol) ... I'd be so heart broken. Boy that sounds shallow. I'd also feel bad if I were to distance myself after that, after he potentionally developed feelings. Does this make sense? Maybe it's an eye opener to slow things down (I also feel like no matter WHAT he looked like, I'd still feel the same way :) )

Freebird! I'm glad my typo made you laugh, and to see you around the forums!
Though the typo might have been funny, I'm afraid it's not accurate at all since I am very immature lol an immature amateur photographer ;)

Lmfao @ Violet ..... I rather enjoyed the 'mature' version of photgrapher. It gave your prowess at taking pictures some extra kudos!! Sometimes the wrong words just have a habit of making others smile. :-)

I think this is mostly due to equipment and environment.
I'm an a mature photographer and portraits of people taken on a phone versus my DSLR look very different. Prison photos are well, unflattering to say the least. Mugshots, well they aren't great either. So it makes sense that they'd look different in different photos. As for the photos taken inside prison, I hardly think they're splashing out on an even halfway decent camera, or have someone that knows how to use them properly. Then there's the environment, everyone watching you, everyone got their tough guy prison face on, gotta act like even having your photograph taken in prison is bad. Then there's weight loss or gain due to depression, or illness or basically just being stuck in a cell most of the time. Beards and hair, they change often and can change the look of someone's face. My PP looks like two different people in both mugshots. Not like I don't recognise him, but he looks different in each one. And alas, I am yet to see him in the flesh, but I'm sure he'll look different from his photos going from 2D to 3D, and I'm sure he'll have the biggest smile when that happens

I am still trying to wrap my head around the difference of the "new" photo I saw. Their body is the same, but the face looks like a different person. The visit photo has to be warped LOL it doesn't make any sense! Because I've seen multiple pictures of this person and NONE of them look like this one.

Hello! So my penpal looks exactly the same as his picture on the website! I got a video of him and it's the same person. Maybe he looks a bit more tired on the video, but he is the same. But the quality is also really bad so I guess maybe that's why he looks a bit different. :)

Yes, for two of my buds so far. Whatever cameras/lenses they use on the inside seem to have this distortion field going on, where the image gets stretched or skewed (sometimes both) the further the subject is from the center of the frame.

Bud No.1 I met in person for the very first time on his release day. Any photo he sent prior to that was the prison issue type, where everyone has their serious face on, and nobody ever smiles. The in-person version was 10,000x better as he was SMILIN’ ALL DAY LONG!!!

Bud No.2 wanted to use one of these prison prints for a forthcoming profile on here, but was really annoyed with the distortion. I was too. Photoshop to the rescue! (I had to crop the other guys out anyway.) It took a bit of back and forth by mail until he judged as accurate. Best foot forward, ya know?
