I saw a pen pal ad from a female prisoner in Florida, so I sent her a nicely written letter and a photo of myself, however, I have only just found out that they aren’t allowed to place pen pal ads, there was no mention of it on her profile and unfortunately I mentioned that I saw her profile on here. Will she be punished for it? and maybe this is a silly question but will she still get the letter? I feel really bad about it, If only she had written ‘Please do not mention this ad’. Should I write again without mentioning writeaprisoner or will the warden recognise my name and address from the first time seeing as I’m from the U.K and it’s foreign mail.

The one who places the ad should be aware of the rules. If the profile doesn't say 'please don't mention this ad' how can you possibly know? Anyhow, your letter may slip through (fingers crossed) but if she doesn't receive it or gets in trouble for some reason, it's not your fault.

If you don't receive a reply, you can always send another letter where you don't mention seeing her profile on here. The mailroom gets tons of mail every day and there's different people working the mailroom, so it's very unlikely anyone will recognise your name.

Thanks for your kind words there, so with my now enlightened understanding of the rules I will try again in a few weeks but as you say, hopefully the first letter will get through or at the very least, I can hope for a different member of staff next time.
