So I have 2 questions but thought I might as well put them together...

1. Is jPay purely over the internet? I'm not sharing any addresses or anything? Is it expensive for the inmate and should I include a pre-paid reply?

2. I read somewhere it's pointless for a female to write a female, as they would 'all' be looking for a man. Would it be pointless to try my luck? I'm merely looking for friendships.

1. Jpay is purely over the internet, the inmate you write to only gets the contact information you share with them. Jpay requires stamps. I suppose you can be "nice" and include a prepaid response if you feel lik eit.

2. You can write to females if you want, but they see females all day, you can enhance your luck a bit further by choosing lesbian/bisexual, but you can get a pretty good idea what they want from their profile. While "dating" profiles aren't strictly forbiden, they're not strictly allowed. Some states don't allow prisoner to write to people who aren't on their visitation/contact list. I had to be put on the contact list of the federal inmate I write to. Some facilities are quite strict about who prisoners are allowed to write to even cutting it down to the maximum amount of friends/family they're allowed to have and some states are now also banning letters altogether.

You really need to read all the rules for the state you are writing to.

Jpay is not always purely over the internet; it depends on the state. In Texas for instance inmates can only receive Jpays but have to reply by snail mail. In that case you'll have to share your address or the inmate won't be able to write you back.

Yeah, the jpay part is still purely over the internet. Texas is just weird. The mail room receives your email and then prints it out and then they have to reply by snail mail. So in the case of that include your regular mailing address so that they can reply. The other annoying thing about Texas is that you can't buy or send them stamps.... Everything has to be bought through ecomms or through their commissary account and ecomms doesn't have stamps last I checked. But Texas is still weird. They can buy a typewriter, and a pocket radio, but they can't have MP3 players, CDs or cassettes. So if they want to listen to something it has to be on the radio and they have no access to computers what so ever unless they happen to be in one of the facilities that teaches computer repairing and then they don’t have any access to the internet either.
