Hi
Does anyone know what that means as I've been able to add them to my contacts but when I try to send a message it says 'this prodeis not currently available for (name)'.
Does anyone know why?
Thanks

Thanks so much for clarifying. I have sent my CorrLinks email to him via wap intro email, will he get that email and be able to add me? Thanks again.

Hi Blondie, JPay in federal is for cash transfers only, nothing else. That said, most federal inmates have access to CorrLinks for electronic messaging, but the information has to be added on their end first. First, you'll have to go to corrlinks.com and make an account. Then, snail-mail your email address to the inmate (the email address you used to sign up with CorrLinks). After the inmate adds you to their contact list, CorrLinks will send you an email with further instructions. Clear as mud, right?

Oh I see, thanks for that. The person I want to reach is at an FCI so I'm guessing he may not be able to respond to me. It's crazy they put their jpay/CorrLinks on the wap profile but some of them can only receive incoming online correspondence but can only respond by post :(

Hi Blondie, federal prisons are operated by the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Prisons (BOP) for inmates convicted of federal crimes, which could be many different things. A sure-fire sign that someone you may want to write is in a federal prison is the name of facility. If it starts with USP, it’s a United States Penitentiary (high security). If it starts with FCI, it’s a Federal Correctional Institution (medium security). There are other classifications but those are the most common. The other sure-fire sign it’s federal is the inmate’s register number. It will always be in this format: #12345-678. Federal prisons can be found in just about every state but are not associated with that state’s prison system. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. What do u mean when u say federal? (I'm not from US) thanks

When you enter an inmate’s register number, don’t include punctuation, e.g. #A-12345 would be entered as A12345. Also, if you’re talking federal (which only works for cash transfers on Jpay), select “Washington DC” from the drop-down menu, no matter which state their facility is in.

I also can't find certain inmates on jpay even though their profile says they use it. Is that jpay messing up or something?

JPay offers a full suite of products and services to the corrections industry, though a particular jurisdiction may not contract for the full suite, e.g. federal only contracts for cash transfers, no email (through JPay), no video, etc. What you’re up against is what the jurisdiction in question has signed up for – which you’ve now discovered.

Maybe his privileges were taken away? To be honest it's hard to tell but in this case I would send letters via snail mail to see what the situation is.
