HI all....So I am new to the site and was wondering if I click on "Email X Now" and compose my message i want to send to a potential pen pal is there a charge for that? Also, can someone give me some guidance on what states are the ones that do not allow the inmates to advertise for pen pals? How would i go about making contact with someone in one of those states if their profile is posted? Of course so that they dont get into trouble. Thanks

As far as I know, Florida, Missouri, Oklahoma and Indiana are the ones that don't allow pen pal ads. It doesn't mean they don't allow pen pals, it only means prisoners are not allowed to advertise for it. The way around it would be not to mention their ad in your letter, you can just pretend you already know this person or you got their info from a mutual friend or something like that, I guess the inmate will get the hint.
The first email service is free of charge, but if the email gets printed and forwarded, it will come with a writeaprisoner logo and address, so if you want to write someone in the 'forbidden' states and avoid any possible trouble, it's best to use regular mail.
