So I was browsing through the website, and it is very important to me to be in contact with inmates who have not received any mail.

Especially those whose profiles are about to expire. I don't want them to be without hope.

I saw a category that says "Inmates not receiving mail."

Does this mean they're not allowed to get mail, or just that no one has sent them anything yet?

Is there a way to see who is not getting mail (little, or no mail) ?

Obviously there is no way of telling who looked at a profile and just took to paper and pen, but maybe the website keeps track of how many hits a profile gets, or how many people use the initial contact option?

I really hope to be a friend to the women and men who are alone.
Imagine if they don't even have family?
I really feel for their situation.

Hm... several possibilities:

1) the "needs mail list"

2) Choose older/elderly inmates. They often (not always, but often) do get less mail than the younger ones. This goes especially for those who have been in for a long time.

3) Look at the Lwop ppl (Life without parole). They often crave longterm pals, as they're literally going to die in prison and they often have or have had ppl going in and out of their life.

4) Choose ppl who committed crimes others are uncomfortable with. (but do this only if and when you are able to deal with it).

Good luck and happy writing!

I am 9 minutes new. How do you find the ones who might be falling off the radar?

Hey Katie,  I hear alot about how writting to prisoners can have something to do with the inmate sometimes asking you to contact family. Is that what you mean by "she is in contact regularly?" Best wishes,  Lexi

Well, at least he has one. There are many who don't have anyone.

Please write Alan Strattan, i1205, Cross city Correctional. He only has one pen pal right now.

I thought like you when I started, too: I wanted to help the ones that are more in need. I contacted the ones who were not receiving mail and whose profiles would soon expire.

Unfortunately, being on that category will not assure you a reply. Most prisoners I contacted didn't reply, even when getting no mail at all, and even when their profiles would already expire. They have their preferences too.

You could elaborate statistics on how many % replied, and share this info here, later.

They count the ppl using the email feature. That's how it works.

It's wrong, though. One of mine is also again on there, and I assure you, he does get mail, at least mine.

But on the other hand, I wouldn't mind at all if he got another pp. We don't have an exclusive penpalship and good friends is sth. he can't have too many of.

Alright then. I'll send the birthday greetings anyways. Thank you (:

There is no way to know for certain whether an individual is receiving mail or not.
My first ever penpal was in that category and we still write two years later. He has had the odd contact with other penpals but they have fallen by the wayside. He has a close relationship with his mother and she is in contact regularly.
So I am unsure how that feature works.
