Hi, I'm new here and I was wondering what JPAY was? Does it coast money? I live in Canada. Do I have access to it and if I do, how to I create an account? I try some of the links that I saw on other posts but it didn't work. Thank you in advance :)

It costs money to buy "stamps" on jpay. It's a form of "email" if you wish to call it that where prisoners can respond to you on the internet. Go to the website and set up an account. Lookup your inmates ID number and add them to your account. From there buy some stamps and send them a message.

Hi! It's me again. I received an email saying this:

Hey Marie, this is *** that u sent a jpay 2 thru write a prisoner. I'm very interested n becoming friends wit u so I'll b writing u as soon as we go to store so I can get sum stamps. We can email each other 4 now if u want but if u jpay again please don't mention about me emailing or anything, as we are not suppose 2 b doing so. Looking forward n getting 2 know u. Take care

It's weird cuz I haven't paid anything. I just send a simple email. I'm not even using JPAY...should I be worried..? Thank you in advance.

Worried about what? Is he the person you sent an email to through this site? Perhaps, they sent it via jpay, I don't know. Jpay is perfectly safe to use, sounds also like he's interested in exchanging letters as well. My guess is that he might be on restriction and had another inmate message you, and is worried (since mail is monitored) that he would get into trouble or the inmate that helped him out would. I wouldn't worry, and it sounds like he's just eager to have someone to write to.

Just write snail mail letters and you'll both be on the safe side.

Inmates can see when you add them to jpay. Some of them will even write you an email before you get a chance to write. This is mostly because they're starved for contact and its not really anything to worry about. If you don't want to write someone don't add them to your jpay.

Normally Frankie would be right. But the "we're not supposed to be doing this" part of it is what's bothering me & what made me suggest to not use jpay. That sounds as if there's an illegal cellphone going around or sth. And that's why I'd switch to snail mail, if I were you, bc no one can have or will have anything against snail mail. (If we aren't talking about a state being strictly against penpals, like FL, for example).
