Groan. .. yet another blip.

Following helpful advice regarding using another browser and getting the use of VPN in order to access more information on inmates criminal records, I am now being stone walled  because all the sites (which have brought up precisely who I am looking for) require payment (no problem) but  NOT from anyone residing outside of the US. Card details accepted fine, but no way around the required zip code, which of course in the UK is known as a postcode and totally different format.

Anyone know of, or found a way around this?

Joker  you appear to be the techno wizard .. any suggestions please?  I'm so hopeless at any kind of pc knowledge.

A comment to postcode when registering card. I experienced also not been able to register my postcode. I live in Norway. After trying several times I found that the postcode needed to be 5 digits and my postcode was only 4. I added a 0 and then my postcode, and everything worked fine after that. Worth trying maybe?

Farfromhome what’s the name of the VPN you’re using? Mine costs me 12 bucks a month so I’m always looking for a good freebie.

@bread with crust Now that, I don't know! As I'm not sure what freebird1 uses.

None of use should need to pay money to find out about an inmates crime though. These things should be fairly easily accessible. You just need to search around for the information.

Ah, okay. I was just a little thrown thinking any of this might have been done impulsively.

Trust me, if you search hard enough, you'll find SOMETHING! Whether it's through Clerk or Courts or a news article. Just try adjusting your search all the time. I'll be very surprised if you can't find a single thing on them for free.
I use a free VPN, bread with crust. TunnelBear. It only gives me 500mb per month but that's usually enough for anything I need to do. Although I've got a few emails set up with them for the odd times that I do need more!

Well, freebird, I did that paid research thing only once, years ago. All it does is aggregate publicly available information you could otherwise find on google and/or bing and/or social media, etc. with a little bit of elbow grease (and a VPN if you're outside the U.S., I hear). I'd say to save your (pounds sterling?) and give it a shot.

I live in Europe as well and never came across a webpage that requested credit card information to obtain records of someone I wanted to write. But I do have a VPN installed, not because of WAP though, I need it for other things. When I’m not satisfied with the information given on the DOC webpage, I google the name along with the crime, for example XY, murder and I add the state where he’s incarcerated. The majority of the time I find a court transcript of the case and I can get all my information from there. No need to pay for anything.

Whoa, back up 10, turn around and honk.

You are about to pay money (and I always thought VPNs cost, did you pay for one in order to do this?) to try to find out information about a person you do not even know yet that you will be corresponding with, for very long or even at all? Because… truly anything at all could happen with writing to someone for the first time, that would and will result in this being money thrown down the drain.

And also, paying to find out about an inmate before you write them? I think you might be letting fear take over entirely. And beyond this, the thing is, if you put the right key words through Google, none of this extra stuff is even needed. Not even a VPN. You just have to be persistent and thorough in your web searching (and it helps if you have a middle name or a middle initial at the very least)…

I think, honestly, take a step back for a minute. You are putting way too much merit into other people's words. Why do you now feel this to be necessary at all? Are the sites you typed your card information into even legitimate, do you know (there are a lot of fake, phishing websites like that)?
