...permitted to receive CD's when I order them at Amazon? Or just books and magazines? Can they even have a CD-Player? And another question: Is there a limit to how many pictures I can send to a TDCJ-Inmate? When I want to send a large amount of pictures to my PP, let's say 40, and I want to send them all at a time, can I send them in one big envelope or is it better to split them up in e. g. eight envelopes each containing five pictures?

:mebeer:Try going to the website and reading what the rules and regulations are for that specific prison... I called mine when I had problems of what I could and couldnt send and they were very helpful! Its probably your best bet when getting a correct answer!
Thank you, I will see what I can find out
As a former Inmate in TDCJ I can tell you that absolutely NO on the CD thing. We are only allowed books and magazines ordered from a verifiable business, like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Half Price Books, etc.
A good way to send books in is to buy them at Wal-Mart and take them to Half-Price Books and have them mailed in. My mother and wife used to do this a lot to save money.
On the photo thing, well it depends on the mailroom staff at that particular unit! Normally we are only allowed 25 photos in each letter, so I would suggest sending in 25 one week and then 25 the next week. You dont have to split them up on 5 envelopes. But like I said it all depends on the mailroom staff at the unit, because at times my wife would send in 40-60 photos of my daughter in one envelope and they would give them all to me.
If you have any questions feel free to message or email me.
There is no official limit to the number of photos an inmate can receive in a single envelope.
Thank you very much for your hints. I asked her and she also said it doesn't matter how much pictures I send in. The last time I wrote to her I sent four envelopes to her. One containing the letter and the other three envelopes each containing about twenty pictures. I hope they get through
My guy can have up to 25 in a letter too. I would send in 2 letters as stated above at u know ur pp will get them. ;-)
see below...
i called the mailroom at my sisters unit and they said theres no limit for the number of pictures. do yall know what size the envelope has to be? he said "plain white envelope" but yet i can only fit like 12 pics in a 4 1/8 x 9 1/2. im sending about 100 pics of my wedding to her :)
radiochick - there is no official limit on the size of envelope or the size of writing paper or greeting card. However, each mailroom may have their own rules as to how big is their limit. At Coffield, the mailroom dont allow things bigger than 18 inches by 18 inches. Other mailrooms wont allow bigger than a sheet of legal pad paper.
It would be sensible to be honest to divide the photos up and send them in several envelopes. Your sister gets more mail that way and if something happens to one envelope at least you know the others should be OK and you wont lose all the photos.
