Hi everyone. My friend is incarcarated in Texas and I live in Europe. We just had our first phone call the other day, which was a three-way call through his mother. It was great but I'd rather not do it again, cause if it gets discovered she might get blocked from his callers list and he could get into trouble. So I looked for ways to call from aboard but it seems that there is absolutely no way for me to do so since international phone numbers aren't allowed. Am I correct? I've been recommended to buy a phone number through google voice or other apps but tdcj requiers you to send a copy of your phone bill with said phone number and a copy of your drivers license, state ID or US ID, which I don't have. The phone bill also needs to have a billing address, which obviously, I don't have either. I feel like I've looked into every option but reached a deadend so asking you is my last resort: Is there really absolutely no way you can call an incaracrated person in texas from aboard? Or am I missing something? Would love some advice if anyone can relate to my situation, thank you so much.

Hey Jenna, sorry for the late response, got ill..
It is great that you have decided to look into this deeply, if you are holding your privacy to yourself try not to share it with penpals. You never know. I appreciate you took my opinion seriously, wishing you all good luck!

Hi girl,

i have the same issue.... I have and penpal from texas too and just like you said, i can't register but he just send me a newsletter in which it says you can upload your own drivers license and ID with your own phone bill. but on the site I can't upload anything really. he also said that there was someone he knew from inside the prison that did connect with some through the phone who lives in germany through a website called Kangaroocalling.com. but I can't find the site anywhere, like it doesn't exist? I'm really trying all sorts of stuff here to figure out how and where just like you. but Maybe his mother can buy a phone, set up an account and conncect it with that phone and send that phone to you.? maybe an option here?

I`ve actually never read of this mother and penpal here before so I wasn`t intentionally hinting at them but it could be that I share the same penpal with others on here... Regardless of that, I appreciate you for watching out for me, this sounds really creepy. I brought up the topic of phone calls to him in one of my letters and told him to not call me anymore and luckily, he accepted it and took it well.

Jenna, I'm not sure if you are the person who is ringing up the same person as others mentioned before, I hope we are not talking about the same person whose mother actually, in fact, knows a lot of things going on behind the bars. Even tho if this is not the same penpal I would recommend for you to be very careful, mothers do not ever leave their sons with their penpals. I know stories when they listened to very private conversations including sexual communication, life after incarceration, and other things they should of obviously leaving for their son to discuss with a penpal.

Sorry I`m a little late to this but you`re absolutely right! Yet another reason why I didn`t feel too comfortable with it. She did say she was gonna "leave us alone" to talk but idk how true that is.

I would be more terrified that his mother might record or listen, despite the fact she lets him do so.. I wouldn't personally start with guys' mothers.

Thanks for letting me know, this is what I had feared. I'll let him know because I really don't want neither of them to get into trouble.

That's correct. There is no way around it and trying is more likely to end poorly for both of you, and his mom too, if discovered. My advice would just accept that it's not something that's going to happen unless the Texas corrections suddenly have a change of heart.
