Hi everyone ,

I wrote to my prospective pen pal in Texas (TDCJ)  for the first time and I’m wondering how long it takes to receive a response typically . I had actually written to him last Friday (8 days ago ) on Securus but then realized he can only reply by snail mail . Then on Tuesday , I wrote him a follow up message with my mailing address , which is my JMail virtual PO Box . It’s now Saturday , what is people’s typical response with the waiting time for a response on JMail from Texas prisons ? I know it hasn’t been very long yet , I’m just bit anxious and wondering about the general timeframe .

I know my SNAIL mail from my house in NC to my pen pal getting it in Texas was around 10 days and sending him something electronically he would get sooner but that is using the old electronic system not Securus. The turnaround for him writing me and sending me something thru snail mail was about the same-10 days. My pen pal does not have an electronic tablet- he is at Polunsky- so they print any electronic mail and take it to them to respond by snail mail. Don’t know if that helps, but that has been my experience and I’ve been writing him about 2 years.

Hello,

Please be patient. Institutional mail typically moves about 3-5 working days slower than normal mail. Mail is rarely lost as long as it is addressed properly. International mail can take up to one week, to ten days, or longer for delivery. If you emailed an inmate using our email forwarding service, messages are sent on the 7th and 23rd of each month.

Thank you
