I visited my pen pal at the Hodge Unit of TDCJ in Rusk, TX for the first time yesterday. Before going, I read everything I could about visiting TX prisons, and was expecting the whole experience to be more austere and strict than it actually was. The guards were really friendly to me, fairly laid back, and the whole process from the guard house at the entrance to the visitation room was very smooth and easy. Since it was my first time visiting a prison, I would just say that and ask what I was supposed to do (e.g., buying snacks and opening them in front of the guards, not leaving my ziploc bag of money on the table, etc.). It was a really positive experience and I encourage anyone who is thinking about visiting to go aheard and do it!

I'm happy to hear your visit went well. I'm sure your pen-pal was thrilled to have you there.

Good to read/know that you had a positive experience.

Were you able to sit next to him or was it a non-contact or telephone visitation?

Thanks in advance!

That's awesome to read that you had a positive experience of visiting your penpal.
Are you going again?
Anything you found a bit stressful?
Anything you found surprising.?
And was it vending machines and were the prices expensive?
I'm just being nosey.
P. S totally not related but incase you look back.... Any advice on books and which company you use to send.
Thanks in advance.
