I got a really prying and sexual letter from an inmate I wrote and I don't feel comfortable writing back to the person so I threw out the letter (first response letter so no communication prior to this). He also lied in his profile (marked himself as transgender because he thought it would be funny) and then said some very upsetting things pertaining to transgender people which made me unwilling to talk to him. I'm really glad I got some genuinely sweet and kind letters from other people at the same time, had been my first one ever I think it would have made me scared to even check my PO Box.

I just needed to vent a little. I'm really glad I got a PO Box now because I don't want someone like that knowing more than necessary. Every other letter responded kindly in some way to my love of books and my intended major so it was just so jarring to have everything completely ignored like that to talk about sex and alcohol when that wasn't even kind of the vibe I was giving off. I'm sure I'm not the first nor the last to experience this sort of thing but now I'm just hoping the other letters aren't so upsetting (I know that seems extreme but as someone who has strong ties to the transgender community it was just a really gross thing to read that shouldn't be repeated). I really hope he doesn't try to mail me again, I don't want to have that kind of stuff coming into my mailbox let alone my life.

If it makes you feel any better, some of my friends on the inside get perverted/nut-case letters too. They just throw ‘em in the trash, where they belong, and don’t give 'em a second thought. I think it’s good advice.

That's disappointing to hear, and I'll glad you got some more positive mail.
As in life there are always going to be things that pop up like this so my advice is, that if that person chooses to write to you again, that you don't even open the letter, just bin it straight away. No point subjecting yourself to that sort of stuff if it's going to upset you.
Other than that, I hope your PP journey is going well
