As some of you may have read on the net or seen in the news, parts of Western Germany near the Dutch and Belgium border, have been hit hard by floods through hours and hours of rain.
I'm living directly in the neighboring county, about 20 min by car away. I got wet to the bones (because it rained here, too and and I'd been out for physiotherapy), but I'm safe. Didn't lose a thing.
But for others, this isn't true. As I write, to my knowledge 117 dead ppl, several hundreds missing, (still unaccounted for), electricity is out in some places and a lot of ppl lost their home, because they can't live there anymore. And for some, this is goona be permanent.
This is one of the hardest natural catastrophe I've ever seen here in my life so far. I know that many other ppl in other countries (Canada, the US western part, etc). suffer from extreme weather phenomenons as well (heat waves, etc).
Well, this is just to tell those of you who know where I'm living that personally I'm safe. But I know a couple who could just swim their apartment right now and who will probably have to throw their belongings (or most of them) away.
After 2 yrs of drought, heat and dryness, this whole year was wet and rainy (here), but this flood was (and is) extraordinary.
For my fellow countryppl in Rhineland-Palentine, those parts of Northrhine-Westphalia who got hit harder than us: Stay safe. Thank God the social media helpto organize goods and temporary housing w/o much bureaucracy.
Stay safe, everyone!

Kirsten, when I read and watched the awful footage of what has happened, the first thing I thought of was you. So thank you for letting us know you're ok. It's a relief in knowing, but the tragedy that has befell others is just terrible. Sometimes there are no words. Please stay safe.
Good article, Eire, thanks.
@freebird: As good as I can. Thank you! :-)
Even that I live 104kms far away from Limburg the water floods are just horrible and we also have a great disaster happening there as well! Venlo and Roermond ready for high water As well
@Velvetmorning14 But it's nowhere near as horrible as in Germany and in Belgium. They have many dead persons and people who are missing or are somewhere they cannot be reached. We only have wet feet and wet houses. We just have a lot of cleaning to do and new cars to buy. That is not a great disaster.
I know the situation is not near I didn't wanted to messed up the Original topic that was not my intention
thanks a lot
this is a terrible tragedy
