Hello!
have a question

First time doing this I sent out a letter Jan 27th to Illinois I live in Nevada I still haven't gotten a letter?
should I write another? Or just be patient?

I suggest you be patient.

Most of the time, the first contact takes longer than expected. After communication, comings and goings of letters take their own rhythm.

Distance does not always play an important role in delays. You are close, in the US, but remember letters aren't delivered immediately, they go to review, which can be fast or very slow, depending on the state, the facility, even the mail staff, and of course the prisoner to whom write to. One of my friends, for his crimes, is monitored in a special way.

In your case, I would wait. I know it's desperate, but... Also you should never rule out that the inmate has decided not to write back. Hopefully that does not happen, but it should not be ruled out.

But if he writes you, receiving his letter will be exciting! Good luck

Thank you! I will keep waiting :) I know the system is different than sending mail to someone not in jail.
Yes! I'm looking forward for a reply!
