Some facilities have limits with the amount you send in one envelope, i do not send more than 20 at a time personally. Not only do i write on the back of the pic, but ensure i ALWAYS place name and DOC#, because that way if pics gets mixed or dropped in the mail room, hopefully they get back to the right envelope. I have known where unmarked pics ended up in wrong hands, so i figure better be safe than sorry and take a few extra moments of my time to write name and #.

They will reject anything that can be interpreted as a route or map, pics of other facilities, gun paraphanalia, gang signs and full nudity. You can send pics from your computer and if you do jpay you can send them directly that way as well. What you need to be minful of is what one person may allow in another will reject, like all things much is left up to interpretation. The only thing i have had rejected is what they deemed as a "map" and they sent those nice little notes (rejection slip) you get from time to time.

I am sure your friend will love what you send, pics are always valued and greatly appreciated, so happy snapping. :)

Thank you! Get so frustrated trying to read every little thing, looking for answers. I just don't want anything to be rejected and sent back, with him maybe thinking I didn't send anything. I wrote a letter asking him, hoping he will know.

Hi! My Wash. pp has asked for pictures. He implies that he doesn't care what they are. Just pictures of places I go etc... What are the guidelines for picture sending? Can I send pics off my computer? Can I write on the back of regular developed pics? Thank you for your help.

I don't have a PP in washington but I have printed out photo's from my computer and they arrived okay in colorado, nevada, pennsylvania, texas. Even a4 sized printed homemade wallpapers were accepted

Scott, does he have any active gang affiliations that you are aware of? I know that can be a reason for them to screen.

I wonder why every time I receive a letter from my boy it is stamped on the back that it has been opened. Is this normal practice or has there been problems in the past?

Mailing Quarterly Gift Package

Quarterly packages are a gift package you may send to an offender.

Offenders are limited in the gift packages they may receive, according to policy. An offender may receive one gift package (not to exceed 15 pounds in weight including packing materials) on a quarterly basis. In order to send an offender a quarterly package, most institutions require that the offender send you a Quarterly Package Authorization form.
For for more information on the maximum allowable personal property for men and women check the matrix.

Quarterly periods consist of December through February; March through May; June through August; and September through November.
Newly admitted offenders do not receive packages while assigned to the Reception Center at Washington Corrections Center.

Restricted Mail

What is not allowed to be mailed? (PDF)
Mail is inspected and the facility will provide written notification of the mail rejection to the offender and the sender. The notification includes the reason for the restriction and the name and address of the sender. The process does allow the offender and/or the sender to appeal the mail rejection.

Washington Corrections Center’s Reception Center has a more restrictive policy on incoming mail. The offender should inform you of what is allowed.

Work Release Mailing Rules
Work Release facilities have different rules for mailing. (Policy 450.110 - PDF)

For detailed information please follow the link to the pdf document.

Sending Money to an Offender

The Department of Corrections provides two options to deposit money into an offender’s resident trust account.
1. Send money online using a credit or debit card.

Western Union's Quick Collect is used for depositing money into an offender’s spendable sub-account. The Quick Collect form requires the following information

code city = WA DOC; state = WA; account number = offender's DOC number followed by the offender's last name: example 123456Doe

For costs refer to fees for Western Union services.

You can also send money using credit or debit card by phone as well as by cash in person at a Western Union Agent, but tell the Western Union phone operator and/or agent that you are sending a "Quick Collect" to receive the more inexpensive money sending service.
