The peaceCENTER's is a non-profit organization whose mission is to nurture the ever-growing circles of peacemakers and resources in a unifying approach to end violence in San Antonio and beyond by partnering individuals and organizations, addressing all issues of violence, providing creative opportunities for all people, and building community and relationships focused on a vision of peace in this time and place and for future generations.
At its most basic level, Time banking is simply about spending an hour doing something for somebody in your community. That hour goes into the Time Bank as a Time Dollar. Then you have a Time dollar to spend on having someone doing something for you. It's a simple idea, but it has powerful ripple effects in building community connections.
The Vera Institute of Justice works closely with leaders in government and civil society to improve the services people rely on for safety and justice. Vera develops innovative, affordable programs that often grow into self-sustaining organizations, studies social problems and current responses, and provides practical advice and assistance to government officials in New York and around the world.
WROC is a coalition of individuals and welfare rights groups organized around their own welfare offices whose mission is: to empower people on welfare to effect positive change in their lives, the welfare system, and other institutions that impact their lives. WROC's goal is to change the welfare system so that it treats welfare recipients fairly and with dignity. WROC organizes groups of women and men to watch how welfare and family policy is implemented at their local welfare office and how it is made at the legislature and at DSHS in Olympia, Washington.
YAFCA (You Are Finally Cared About) provides social services to those who need it most. We incorporate non-profits from the York, Philadelphia, Manhattan, and Baltimore areas to ensure that those in need can access the help they deserve. Together we are working for the greater good. Youth Crime Watch of America brings youth of all backgrounds together to identify and correct problems unique to their schools and communities. The YCW program empowers youth to take an active role in addressing the problems around them. Youth take ownership of their own YCW program for their school, neighborhood, public housing site, recreational center or park.
