Illicit drug use by U.S. teens is down, according to the 2006 Monitoring the Future Study of 50,000 8th-, 10th-, and 12th-graders. But prescription drug use remains high, and the decline in cigarette smoking has halted. UM Institute for Social Research is a center that conducts the annual Monitoring the Future survey of teens about substance use for the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
